"spiritually uplifting & challenging"
Think you're so special leagues of angels & demons are fighting over you? You're right!
This spiritual warfare thriller quickly became a classic in its own right & soared to the hights in Christian fiction. Peretti is a great storyteller. He weaves suspense into a catching plot that makes you want to chase ahead a few chapters. But don't--you'll ruin the surprises.
Sondericker's narration hits the nail on the head with some characters as I had imagined them in past readings. He seems to enjoy the story & really get into it; all the more enjoyable for the listener.
Don't stop here! There's an exciting sequel to follow & a number of Peretti works to keep the pages turning...or the audio running.
"Superior suspense thriller!"
Superior! Knife-blade suspense that will keep you up late & keep you turning pages. A classic Dekker mind-bending thrill ride that plunges the reader into a rush of adrenaline again & again. Chilling mystery, soul-searching drama, endearing romance, & a host of memorable characters will drag your mind into a deep, dark depth that could only come from the mind of Ted Dekker.
Enjoy the ride.
"Good story, narration drags"
I would like to have read this book instead of listening to it. I usually love Dekker's thrill rides. The narration seems rushed, repetitive (almost sing-song at times), unengaged—a hindrance to classic Dekker suspense.
If you’re a Dekker fan, this 1 is closer to the juvenile series style, similar to the “Lost Books” saga; & as always, connected to the larger adventure. ;) The spiritual twist becomes clearer as the story progresses, so just enjoy the ride. It provides a good message for youth & adults, especially for those who are not happy with “self”.
Thanks again, Ted.
Blessings~
"passionate, intriguing, inspiring"
Sweeney narrates his own historical plunge into the life & times of Peter of Moroni. His passion for the details is obvious in his considerable detective work to examine the history from all angles, providing a richly woven tribute to this mysterious man of God.
Further exploration of key persons in government & Church of the time--including Francis of Assisi, the "pillar saints" & hermits--create a fuller bounty of understanding for the life & choices of the brief but godly Pope.
An excellent read/listen that will keep your attention throughout.
"a lot of liberal, a little Francis"
I really wanted to love this book. It contains so much of Rohr's liberal opinions & so little of Francis's teachings, I simply could not. From exampling talking down to a less educated congregation to claiming someone living in a state the Bible declares sin is holy, it is extremely awkward to digest this book through the lens of God's Holy Word. As a Christian & clergy, I agree there is much we need to let go. The truth of Scripture, however, is certainly not on that list, & never shall be for those who love Christ & keep His Word.
Sadly disappointing.
"a captivating adventure for spirit & faith"
A beautiful, artistic, charming, at times disturbing tale richly woven in Anne's return to faith in Christ. This will stir your spirit!
"funny but vulgar"
Sam Jackson is an amazing performer. I love his work. However, sadly, he is largely popular for vulgarity in his career.
This story is so funny; but the extreme profanity, in particular taking God's name in vain, robs the listener of what would otherwise be a delightful experience.
God bless~
"Chilling!"
Dark, dreamy, the stuff nightmares are made of.
Lovecraft is classic horror with rich American heritage flavor. Visit a town so far off any normal path the natives are already frightening, even before darker visitors move it. And chase the dreams of a list of madmen to discover a secret so dark it can't be mentioned.
A host of modern-day horror talents tip their hats to this brilliant original master.
Want to add a chilling challenge to your delight? Listen with the lights off.
