I bought this book several years ago. Enjoyed it then and again today. The narration is perfect for the story. There were negative comments in the reviews about the Christian emphasis in the story. I don't care to be preached to but I found the religious content to be in keeping with the story. The reader is free to choose his response to what is presented. Good listen.
Nice voice in the narration but what's with all the snottiness??? Just started listening and I really wish someone else was doing the narrating. Tone of voice is snippy gossip. How demeaning to the First Ladies.
Wonderfully done! Well written and very well narrated. Love to hear more like this.
Probably the best audiobook I've ever heard in the more than twenty years I've been listening. The performance of these actors was top notch. The author had an understanding of human behavior and an ability to express it which are timeless. I cannot recommend this highly enough. If more stars had been available, I would have given them across the board.
Before writing this I checked to see whether this narrator had done other books. I was astounded to find that he had. His rapid-fire bursts of 3-4 words at a time with no consideration given to the flow of the written word was extremely distracting. Emphasis was given to words within the bursts without thought of the meaning of the entire sentence being read. It was difficult to follow the storyline. The topic was interesting and the writing was okay--I think. I tuned out frequently in frustration. Even as a daily deal, the cost was excessive. Save your money.
This author has great insight into people. I am from a generation which finds some of the content objectionable. Having said that, the contribution of the characters to the overall story was important and the writing was such that it wasn't necessary to delve deeply into all of the details of each character to follow the impact of each on the story. The narration was outstanding. I will certainly look for additional offerings by both the author and the narrator.
The story line is a variation on one used many times. Even so, it is well written and the performance holds your attention throughout. The ending made listening worthwhile.
Others may find the subject matter and presentation satisfactory. I was offended. There should be greater disclosure in the description of books. Had this been my first buy, it would have been my last and I would have cancelled my subscription.
This author/narrator combination never disappoints. Story lines are drawn from the headlines of the day. Dan John Miller is an outstanding narrator. His transition from one character or one accent to another is flawless. He brings each character into separate focus while blending them together to follow the story. It is always a pleasure to find another of these books. Always a good listen.
I happen to enjoy the old 1940's PI stories. This was just plain fun. Good writing, excellent -narration -- by the same person. All to often authors are not the best readers of their work. That a pleasant surprise! This is a book to return to when you just want to be entertained.
I am a dog lover who enjoys the special relationship often occurs between man and dog. This was well portrayed. Having said that, this book is an example of a man who makes poor judgement calls and pays a price which could have been avoided. There are so many books with this theme that you can begin to wonder if anyone thinks others are as smart as he is. It seems that no matter how often the character is shown to be wrong, he doesn't learn. Not really as good as most Robert Crais novels. Too bad. His books have always been entertaining and educational about human nature even if a little over the top.
