Another great Asimov story. The narrator makes some strange decision in regards to accents for the characters - but he is very consistent about it which make it easy to follow who is talking at any point in time. This is a nice sci-fi story written around a mystery. This story takes place in Asimov's galactic empire and again he has set this story during the time frame of the expansion period of the galactic empire from Trantor. I like the story, it is a quick read/listen and Asimov's universe is always consistent... which is nice going from book to book. Narration is decent too.
a Fun read.
probably. The end of the book leaves a lot of question to resolve.
Excellent performance. Very good and consistent use of voices and accents to differentiate the characters. It was seamless to the point where you forget he is using different voices.
Yes it would have been perhaps slightly better if it had been a little shorter. It is written as young adult literature - so I felt like it could have moved to the conclusion a little faster.
I was kinda frustrated at times with not getting any answers to the mysteries presented in the book. And then end of the book only answered some of them and presented more mysteries at the end. If this is something you enjoy you will love the book - if you feel like you get kinda ripped off when not everything is resolved - beware.
No... I would read it next time. This narrator was truly awful.
I thought the story was very well written and and thought out. It was easy to get lost in the consistent world of the Silos.
The end was pretty cool.
I haven't heard the other narrator for this book (there are two versions with different narrators) - so I can't recommend the other narrator per se. But it is hard to imagine any narrator doing a worse job. So I guess I am recommending you buy the other version.
I enjoyed this book much more than any of Mull's Fable Haven books. It was a better concept driven forward by better overall pacing , better character interaction, and a more interesting story line. I can only hope the succeeding books can keep it going...
I liked the story a lot it but I didn't care for the whole story being narrated with a bad Russian accent. It was distracting for about the first 3rd of the book....luckily I enjoyed the concepts of the book enough to get past it....
I loved the first book a lot... but I felt like this book kind of drew me out of the world of Neverland and I felt a little disconnected for most of the time from that world. As a stand-alone story it is great and it does give a little more back story to the Peter Pan/Neverland story. As always Jim Dale (narrator) was incredible.
I found the story to be interesting and engaging. The writing is pretty good and natural flowing, The narrator does a pretty good job as well. The story has a lot of interesting twist and turns... not what I expected at all. The authors do a good job making the aliens very foreign and so it makes it kind of like a mystery ( hint/spoiler ) - there is something fundamental we don't understand about the aliens that might just prove critical. But I felt in the end like the book went on a little too long. I wanted it to wrap up a little quicker at the end. Also there could have been a little more action in the story. Overall it was good.
This was a fun and easy listen. The story is pretty straightforward... not a lot of surprises... but the characters are good and the writing style is nice. The narrator is good as well.
I have never really been a big fan of Peter Pan... BUT since Jim Dale was narrating this I thought it would be a good book to listen to on long car trips with my kids (He's such an excellent narrator). What I did not expect was to actually, really enjoy the story. It was a good enough story that I actually found that I like the world of Peter Pan as envisioned by these authors. This was truly a good and fun prequel to the Peter Pan story we all know and grew up with. Jim Dale of course is excellent. Highly recommended.
I truly enjoyed this book. I really liked the fact that for a long while at the beginning of the book I didn't know what was going on and still found that I enjoyed the story and narrative. The universe the author creates is interesting and the flashbacks help bring the story into focus over time. Others have complained that there is not enough action in the story - and I admit after I was done with the book - I looked back and realized the same thing. But I still really enjoyed the read ... and getting lost in this world was fun. This was my first book by Reynolds - but will most likely not be my last. The is some hard profanity in this book although lightly used most of the time ( I estimate there were maybe 2 dozen F-Words in and 18 hour book )As for the Narrator, he does an excellent job on this book - and that may have contributed to how much I enjoyed listening to it.
This book is set in a pretty interesting world, the author is actually a fantastic story teller and the story was pretty good. BUT - there is a lot of things that made listening to this down right un-enjoyable much of the time. The dialog of the characters was too abrasive (like everyone one was an angsty teenager) and the bad language was way over done! I estimate that there is on average about 1 to 2 F-words per minute in almost every character's spoken dialog. In a book that is about 24 hours long - that's a lot of F-Words (And I haven't even guessed how many other profane words were used - so you can extrapolate it's a lot of profanity). I haven't heard this much profanity outside of a high school locker room - much less a serious book. If the bad language had been toned down this would have been a much better book. The subject matter is sometimes pretty dark and very violent. And there are parts that are just crass. The narrator, though, was really really good. He almost made the book good by himself.I probably would not recommend this book to anyone I actually know (mostly because of the language and the sometimes crass parts of the story).
