Okay, so jogging through Central Park after midnight wasn't a bright idea. But Margrit Knight never thought she'd encounter a dark new world filled with magical beings, not to mention a dying woman and a mysterious stranger with blood on his hands. Her logical, lawyer instincts told her it couldn't all be real, but she could hardly deny what she'd seen...and touched.

This is the lamest, slowest story ever. Things pop up that you've never heard of. Stupidity is rampant. Instead of just doing what a normal person would do the heroine just talks and talks and talks and eats a lot of yogurt. I counted at least three scenes already where she eats yogurt???? ARGH Don't torture yourself. Choose something else. Patricia Briggs maybe?

It's springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll, and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests, and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

I love this narrator. I believe he is the best I have ever heard. I also loved the last book from this author and the same narrator...HOWEVER, I am half way through and making myself listen. Cannot stand one more scene of torture and violence. Its just one after another after another. Unrelentingly violent and slow...so slow. The best way I can describe it is....Know how some romance authors take a lot of graphic sex and link those scenes loosely with narrative?? This book like that with violent interludes. Putting it down!

It's been 14 years since Thursday pegged out at the 1988 SuperHoop, and Friday is now a difficult 16-year-old. However, Thursday's got bigger problems. Sherlock Holmes is killed, and his series is stopped in its tracks. And before this can be corrected, Miss Marple dies suddenly in a car accident, bringing her series to a close as well. When Thursday receives a death threat clearly intended for her written self, she realizes what's going on: there is a serial killer on the loose in the Bookworld.

A very excellent addition to the Thursday Next series. There were some slow moments toward the beginning but as a lover of this series I can be forgiving---plus it picked right up!
    You'll love it.

Spy, rogue, thief, and noble, Seregil of Rhiminee is many things, none of them predictable. And when he offers to take on Alec as his apprentice, things may never be the same for either of them. Soon Alec is traveling roads he never knew existed, toward a war he never suspected was brewing. Before long he and Seregil are embroiled in a sinister plot that runs deeper than either can imagine and that may cost them far more than their lives if they fail. But fortune is as unpredictable as Alec's new mentor.

I won't bother to download any books by this author again. I thought at first I had gotten a young adult edition or something but then there was a lot of hinting at homosexuality and sexuality in general. No sex, mind you. That might have spiced things up some but just hints. Then there were some pretty gruesome descriptions of what they did to traitors so I figure it isn't meant to be puerile and juvenile on purpose. Just say NO. Save your credits.

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

I've already read this series (except for the newest one) and was apprehensive about the complexity of the story line and my ability to keep the characters straight in the audio version. I was even a little uncertain about the accent of the narrator when I listened to the sample! I decided to try it anyway b/c I don't have time to re-read the series before I read the last, newest book and wanted to refresh my memory on some long car trips.
I am so pleasantly surprised--Dotrice makes the characters easy to keep separate and his accent adds to the story instead of detracting. I'm thrilled with it and just hope he continues to read the other books in the series! Go for it, you won't be disappointed.
