Michael Shermer gallantly defends Darwinian/Macro evolution and attacks Intelligent Design. There are loads of interesting and fanciful bits of data which tend to confuse the issue rather than provide clarity to the core question: Who was your great….great grandfather? Was it a self replicating molecule, as Darwinian/Macro evolution asserts, or was it Adam, as the Bible asserts or are was it someone else.
I listened to the whole book once and many parts two or three times. Although some parts were interesting, as a whole I found the book disappointing and irritating for the following reasons:
--- 1) MISREPRESENTATION OF THE ISSUE
•Shermer falsely represents the issue as Science against Religion when in reality it is science against Darwinism.
•Darwinism = Darwinian/Macro evolution has fundamental scientific problems that Darwin could never have imagined.
•In the audio transcripts of the Kansas school board hearings (fascinating listening and available as a free download from Audible.com), Dr John Sanford (Geneticist and inventor of the Gene Gun) said
“The bottom line is that the primary axiom [of Darwinian/Macro evolution] is categorically false, you can't create information with misspellings, not even if you use natural selection.”
•Dr Sanford and other highly credible scientists present powerful scientific arguments to why Darwinian/Macro evolution is not viable for scientific reasons.
--- 2. WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE? WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE
•Shermer emphasizes his key point that he believes in Darwinian evolution because multiple lines of scientific enquiry all support Darwinian evolution. He rattles off a whole string of branches of science to reinforce the point. To the uninformed this would be very convincing – however, being an Engineer and educator myself I see through this smoke and mirrors trick and say WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE?
-- 3. POOR SKEPTIC
•As the chief of the skeptic society – Shermer is a poor skeptic because he blindly accepts Evolution.
This audio book goes for over 20 hours. I went through the whole thing and found it very informative and worthwhile.
It is very educational and the presentation is excellent in that it does not get bogged down in detail and terminology.
Some of the history is highly disturbing - but the book does a good job of giving an detached observers overview.
I have no reservation in recommending this book.
This is one of the best books I have listened to.
I recommend it highly because:
- it is brutally honest; it does not sugar coat the conversion experience
He shares his journey "warts and all"
- It is highly informative and educational; I learnt much about Islam
- It is highly inspiring
- It is well presented and enjoyable to listen to.
The author is very articulate and communicates not only observable actions but also intent and feelings on his explorative journey. I was highly engaged listening to it. There were numerous times that I was teary eyed as I associated greately with Nabeel's conversion.
I cannot recommend it enough.
Highly recommended because it provides convinging evidence which shows that the Warren Commission was a complete white wash. Oswald was a distraction to prevent the real killers from being sought. The evidence is very clear in this regard.
the book is too long to go through in one sitting
The American people need to listen to this book and to rise up against the tyranical forces in power. This is disturbing but inaction will lead to tyrany and oppression.
The government needs to come clean.
It was easy to understand and was mostly free from technical gibberish.
It painted a clear and disturbing picture which will impact on all of us.
I liked it especially in that they do not expect you to just accept their conclusion; they give you their reasoning and it is their well thought out reasing which is really valuable.
It is mostly common sense - but it helps you to see through the BS that is fed to the public which prevents a public uproar.
I found the book highly profitable. I was going to buy into the US property market; but after hearing Aftershock, I have abadoned that idea. It has also helped me see why my shares were doing poorly. The Macro picture is vital to micro investing.
The chapter about economics and new theories etc was not as engaging as the first part of the book.
The Narator was excellent
Well worth the time.
It could save you thousands of dollars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was interesting, engaging and also very heartwarming.
It will be heard to swallow for some people but the book is honest and does not seem exagerated or contrived - for this I was very greatfull.
It was also highly encouraging in that it produces hope and greater confidence that Jesus is real and waiting on the other side.
I highly recommend this book
Easy to listen too.
A bid disturbing that these assasination squads roam the planet. If they ever get out of control we are in serious trouble. I can see a need for them but I also shudder at the thought of some crazy man gaining control of them
The content and format and presentation of this book is excellent.
It was very easy to listen too
It had lots of usefull bits of highly interesting information about Kenedy etc.
The ONLY signficant shortcoming is that he tows the official line of having Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone gunman. He does not explain any of the contradicting evidence such as Kenedies head lunging backwards when the bullet was meant to have come from there or other anomalies. Apart from this weakness I thoroughly enjoyed and learnt much by listening to it.
I was significantly disapointed by this audio book.
It did not contain anything of substance;
I did not find any practical application.
Would not recommend to others
I found this book very interesting and educational
It is a very short book (under 60 min) I was disapointed that it was not longer.
Some deep theology but presented in an interesting and clear maner.
It's pretty profound
I am highly interested in the Evolution topic and got this book to find the solid evidence behind Evolution. I as significantly disapointed.
I found it really really boring, it was a strugle to go through but I persevered.
The ""mountains of evidence" for Macro evolution that I was hoping to find was not there that I could figure out. I went through it a second time, but still I waded through tons of irrelevant detail but no real tangible evidence to prove the key Evolution assertion that our great ..... great grandfather was a self replicating molecule.
This book has significant historical significance - but I will stuffed if I can see why.
Frankly I am amazed how such a lame book has had the influence that it has.
