Inspired to extend a helping hand to ambitious women working in corporate America, a veteran executive offers honest, practical, slightly irreverent advice about navigating companies that are run and populated predominately by men: how to interpret their sometimes surprising behavior, avoid common mistakes, flourish with the good guys, deal with the bad guys, and nurture a wonderful, satisfying career in a non-traditional role.

Was The Discreet Guide for Executive Women worth the listening time?

Not for me, however im sure it would be for women in parts of the world where this is relevant.

    Any additional comments?

Personally i found this book was quite irrelevant for my part of the world (Australia). The relationships between men and women that the author talks about is a bit outdated here. Although i am sure there may be some businesses where this stuff still goes on, perhaps in Sydney, however i personally have worked in the corporate world in Melbourne & QLD and have not experienced the level of "men VS women" to the extent that the author discusses (of course it's there, just not to the level discussed in the book). I didn't listen past about 20 minutes as i really took nothing from it. Again, this is not to say the author is wrong or didn't do a great job - just wasn't helpful to me.

  • The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if they were in a place where they needed a morale booster

What did you learn from The Gifts of Imperfection that you would use in your daily life?

We're not perfect, but that's what makes us who we are - instead of looking at the negative side of things, we need to look at the strengths that are created from these.

This is nothing new. But when i was in a place emotionally where i needed to hear it, somehow it was delivered in a way that wasn't condescending, nor repetitive. It somehow stuck wth me, and really helped me to see how strong i can be.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No - unless they were deeply spiritual and could sit, uninterrupted, and really get into the story, it is too deep and too long winded.

Would you ever listen to anything by the authors again?

not in this genre of book

What didn’t you like about Suzanne Toren’s performance?

it was quite boring - didn't capture me at all

Do you think What the Bleep Do We Know needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    don't know - couldn't finish it

    Any additional comments?

I use audio books because i am short of time, so i make the most of my time in the car - this book is FAR too deep and doesn't follow in a straight line - i had trouble trying to stay with them and understand what they were talking about, and why. For anyone spiritual and able to sit quietly and listen to it, it may be ok. in which case, i'd say buy the book.

For an audio book, not suitable.
