For Iris, he sudden impulse to write a piece about her mother leads to a shot at literary success. The piece recounts an eerie Irish fairy tale her mother used to tell her at bedtime - and nestled inside is the sad story of her mother's death, a strange, untimely end in a fire 30 years ago. When Iris returns to the remote Hotel Equinox in the Catskills, the place where she grew up, to write her mother's biography and search for her mother's missing manuscript, she unravels a haunting mystery that threatens to envelope her.

The Seduction of Water lacked any true seduction. It was not the worst book I have listened to by far, but not one I would listen too again. It was predictable and just left you wanting. Could have been a truely good story, but it falls flat. Okay if you just want something to listen to. I'd wait until it was on sale to purchase or just find something else if I had to do it over again. At the end of the novel, I just felt disappointed. Characters were flat and never really cared about them. I kept waiting for the bad guy to pull off a mask and say, "I'd of gotten away with it too if it weren't for those pesky kids!"

Nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh has long wanted to make American history come to life for the children of his listeners. In Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims, he created the character of a fearless middle-school history teacher named Rush Revere, who travels back in time and experiences American history as it happens, in adventures with exceptional Americans. In this second book in the series, Rush Revere is transported back to the people and events leading up to the American Revolution.

As a boy, William Bellman commits one small, cruel act: killing a bird with his slingshot. Little does he know the unforeseen and terrible consequences of the deed, which is soon forgotten amidst the riot of boyhood games. By the time he is grown, with a wife and children of his own, William seems to be a man blessed by fortune - until tragedy strikes and the stranger in black comes. Desperate to save the one precious thing he has left, William enters into a rather strange bargain, with an even stranger partner, to found a decidedly macabre business.

Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Would you listen to The Golem and the Jinni again? Why?

Yes. It was an amazing story and I am sure some details were lost with the first listen. I just finished and am starting again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Golem and the Jinni?

I enjoyed the ending. I was glad the author wrapped the story up, but did it in an open ended way. It left just enough places for the reader to fill in in the gaps, but to feel satisfied with the overall conclusion.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When they end up at the mansion with staff and parents looking on in shock.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It took a very short time for me to get lost in the story and I hated having to stop listening. Usually I hate having to travel for my job, but while I had this to listen to, I was glad to be away from the office because it gave me time to continue listening.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this read very much. Someone in anther review mentioned, Night Circus, and made a comparison. I loved Night Circus and this book had the same feel. You get caught up in the magic of the story. The minute I finished it, I called my friend and let her know this was a must read. Then, I started it all over again. Some books you hate to see end....

Nicholas Duncan is a semi-retired shipping magnate who resides in idyllic Beautiful Bay in Indonesia, where he is known as the old patriarch of the islands. He is grieving the loss of his beautiful Eurasian wife, Anna, and is suffering for the first time from disturbing flashbacks to WWII, the scene of their first meeting and early love. His other wartime lover is the striking Marg Hamilton, a powerful and influential political player in Australia who has remained close to Nick.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A new story without all the political statements. The first half of the novel was a re-telling of the Persimmon Tree. The second half of the novel was about saving the planet. If he wanted to write a book about saving the environment, then do it, but don't hide it in the sequel to a novel.

What could Bryce Courtenay have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Cut out about half of the novel.

Which character – as performed by Humphrey Bower – was your favorite?

    None in this novel.

What character would you cut from Fishing for Stars?

    Marg, Anna, Nick.......

    Any additional comments?

I was so disappointed and kept holding on hoping that something would happen to make me love this book as much as the Persimmon Tree. I was excited to find out what happened to the characters, but was soon done with the story. Could there be one more coincidence that turned out well for every person involved? If I was anyone of the characters I'd a bought a lottery ticket. Even if it didn't win, something would have happened to make it okay in the end. It is all....."A funny thing happened to me on the way to the office...." So, So, So disappointed. I had several other novels in my wish list, that will be now be deleted.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Would you consider the audio edition of Unbroken to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print version, so I couldn't compare. I can only say that this version had me hooked from the get go.

What other book might you compare Unbroken to and why?

    None.

Which character – as performed by Edward Herrmann – was your favorite?

    Louie and Phil

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. Every time I thought, "Okay, we will start slowing down...." It just kept getting better.

    Any additional comments?

I found my self captivated by the story and the details were beyond belief. My heart broke at times imagining all those young men and the trials they faced. They grew up fast and some not at all. With family in the military over seas now, it hit home.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

    Yes. That bad.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Did not enjoy him at all. The lip smacking during pauses was terrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    So disappointed.

    Any additional comments?

I can't recall the last time I had such a negative reation to a novel. I just hated everything about this story. It is not life changing, it is not beautiful, it is not powerful, it is not anything described by previous readers/listeners. Such a waste of time. Escaped convict makes good. No thanks.

Bo Mason, his wife, and his two boys live a transient life of poverty and despair. Would you try another book from Wallace Stegner and/or Mark Bramhall?

Yes. It took me a bit to fall into the rythm of the novel and to begin to enjoy it, but once that happened (and it wasn't long into the story) I really enjoyed the ride.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Big Rock Candy Mountain?

There were several moments that stand out, but the end of the novel with Bruce looking back on the his family history and trying to make peace with the memories of his father. It breaks your heart as this young man is left to deal with so much alone.

Which character – as performed by Mark Bramhall – was your favorite?

Esla, who is the part of the family structure that holds it all togther. We watch her make excusses for the ones she loves as she deals with the decisions she has made in her life. Her role as a mother, wife, daughter, friend and sister all play a part in this novel.

Could you see The Big Rock Candy Mountain being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It seems like they make all novels into movies now. I am usually not a fan of this because so much is lost in the translations. The images and messages from the novel are just never right and the actors never seem to be match the characters that played the part in my mind as I read the novel.

    Any additional comments?

This is remembering a time in our country's history when people were moving and trying to find that place that would be an answer to their prayers. The setting in the novel becomes almost a character in itself. It reflects the mood and the situation of the family, primarily Bo. Things are beautiful sometimes and others, not so much. The family travels take us from North Dakota, Washington, Saskatchewan, Canada, Nevada, Salt Lake City, Utah and Montana. Each member of the family having their own idea of what that "perfect life" would be and what it takes to get it, only that little bit of happiness is always just out of reach. At the end, after following the family for thiry years, I felt like I had just read someone's diary and could finally understand how hard their journey had been. It is long, but you wont feel it as you travel along with Bo, Elsa and their two boys.

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

I did enjoy the story, or biography, I should say and the author did a good job of blending fact with fiction. However; the vampires played a small part in the whole story and I felt let down by that. Mr. Lincoln's life was very interesting so I did not have trouble listening, as I said the author did a good job. I believe it was just not what I expected, but it cured my curiosity and I won't be venturing down this path again.
