Skunk Cunningham is an 11-year-old girl in a coma. She has a loving dad, an absent mother and a brother who plays more X-Box than is good for him. She also has the neighbors from hell: the five Oswald girls and their thuggish father Bob, vicious bullies all of them, whose reign of terror extends unchallenged over their otherwise quiet suburban street.

I'd recommend this book. Definitely has some unexpected twists and turns and is a bit dark in parts, but you can't put it down until you figure out how it all will end. There are some loose parallels to "To Kill a Mockingbird", but if you weren't a fan of that book, don't let that stop you. This is a modern day book with a suspensful plot.

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, Ready Player One is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Couldn't stop listening after I started it! Would recommend this to anyone that loves the 80's, enjoys SciFi, or just enjoys a great adventure novel.

Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.

With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

Mark P. Furlong says: "Entertaining, thought-provoking, darkly funny"

    Story

Although this book seemed a bit repetitive in the ongoing satire of the dismal conditions of the poor and impoverished class in India, the story itself was intriguing enough that I simply had to finish the book. I wish the characters had developed more, but the moral behind the story was evident. That India is full of the Have's and the Have Not's and to become a Have, you need to, at least partly, be prepared to set aside your morals. The relentless descriptions of the poor life style, disgusting living conditions and extensive corruption, while seemingly tedious, hits home that there is little hope for the poor to overcome their conditions and rise out of it.

You can sit back and just let the book be read to you without much effort and it is humorous in how the narrator describes his chronology. I say it's worth a listen.

"Little Dorrit" is Amy, born in debtor's prison, the youngest child of debtor William Dorrit, an inmate of the Marshalsea. The two are befriended by a man whose wife hires Little Dorrit as a seamstress. When William Dorrit inherits a fortune, he escapes the Marshalsea, and the newly wealthy family travels to Italy.

I truly enjoyed this book and was so caught up with the characters that I was sad when it ended. Not sure anyone so pure really exists, but wonderful to think someone out there could be a Little Dorrit. The rest is such an accurate portrayal of our materialistic, selfish and idiotic society, that this book could have been written in present times. Worth the read, but settle in and relax when you read it. This is not your current day color by numbers book that today's "acclaimed" authors put out every 6 months.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

This is a great book. I highly recommend it to any reader. I just finished the 2nd and though I loved the first book, I might have loved the 2nd even more. I'm going to be fighting with my husband over the who gets to read the 3rd book first!

Why we think it’s a great listen: It’s easy to say that when it comes to sci-fi you either love it or you hate it. But with Ender’s Game, it seems to be you either love it or you love it.... The war with the Buggers has been raging for a hundred years, and the quest for the perfect general has been underway for almost as long. Enter Andrew "Ender" Wiggin, the result of decades of genetic experimentation.

    "GREAT book!"
    Overall

Not sure how I never knew about this book, until a friend referred it to me last year. This is a fantastic book. I listened to it with my teenage son, who loved it also. We've listened to the next 2 books in the series and are now on Ender in Exile. It's a great book for any age.

This is the story of a man who said that he would stop the motor of the world - and did. Is he a destroyer or a liberator? Why does he fight his hardest battle not against his enemies, but against the woman he loves? Tremendous in scope, breathtaking in its suspense, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's magnum opus and launched an ideology and a movement. With the publication of this work in 1957, Rand gained an instant following and became a phenomenon. Atlas Shrugged emerged as a premier moral apologia for capitalism, a defense that had an electrifying effect on millions of readers (and now listeners) who had never heard capitalism defended in other than technical terms.

I'd say best book ever, but I have other books I really love just as much. Absolutely worth every minute it takes to read it or listen to it. Don't go through life without taking the time to read this!

Propelled into society by his ever-hopeful father, Frank is introduced to a variety of professions in order to make his fortune. Not industrious by nature, however, Frank finds working life a challenge, and by his 25th birthday, he has failed medicine, portrait-painting, caricaturing, and even forgery. Disenchanted with life, he despairs of ever finding something to commit to — until he meets Alicia Dulcifer and her inexplicably wealthy father.

Sit back and enjoy. Very entertaining the scrapes that main character gets into, with the final one in the name of love. First chapters set the stage, and albeit are a little slow, but hang on, you get sucked in and can't wait to find out what happens next.
