As much as I found the plot disappointing and a bit on the slow side at times, I don't think Sophie Kinsella can write a bad book ... she's apparently quite a charming person and that does come through in spades in her writing. Narration quite good. Overall, worth an Audible credit.
I would say that this is a 3-4 star read. The plot is a bit above average for this type of small town women centered book, and the characters do grow on you as the story progresses. Good enough for an audible credit.
Having taken computer programming classes in college in the mid1970s, before the time of personal computers, I was programming on punchcards when computers were the size of a wall. I was very interested to read this book. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this book. Aside from a few interesting tidbits, I found the account of this topic to be rather boring. Perhaps my expectations were just too high.
I do read books of and about this period. I generally find them to be charming, and often quirky. This book, however, is just awful. The characters are insipid, and the plot could have been wrapped up in chapter 1. Please .... Don't waste a credit on this book.
The narration of this book is excellent. First time through, I did not really engage in the story. Decided to give it a second try and liked it. If your mind tends to wander, though, this might not be the listen for you.
I read this book sometime back on kindle. Thought I'd listen to it on audio now that it has been made into a movie. Honestly, I think it's a better read in print, since the listen felt a bit abbreviated. Good narration. I would recommend as it is an unusual story in an unusual setting.
I liked everything about this book .... I particularly appreciated the pacing. It's so common to become involved in a book, only to have the plot end abruptly tying up all those annoying loose ends. I liked how this story unfolded, and ended. Modern and a bit eccentric story. 4 stars.
This book was a standout read/listen. Narration excellent. My only issue was that the story transitioned rather abruptly from scene to scene. Recommended.
I found this book to be something of a mixed bag. There were some sweet moments, and the cultural backdrop was interesting, but overall lacks the element of surprise. An average read.
This author is obviously an authority in her field, and her method is right on the money. I would, however, recommend purchasing this book either on kindle or hardcover instead of audio. A third of the book is likely only to be scanned (since only a few minutes actually apply to any one individual), and there were several times that I would have liked to go back to an earlier section but was unable to do so due to the audio format. Also, there are very few authors who should be narrating their own books ... this is not one of them. The narration was average, and to do justice to the book should have been done by a professional narrator, in my opinion.
This book was an interesting enough read, but it was lacking in depth or continuity. It has the feeling of a novel in installments. Okay to pass the time,
