i've read a number of period novels, but this one stands out as particularly well written and authentic. the subject is very appealing as well.
This book was a standout read/listen. Narration excellent. My only issue was that the story transitioned rather abruptly from scene to scene. Recommended.
I found this book to be something of a mixed bag. There were some sweet moments, and the cultural backdrop was interesting, but overall lacks the element of surprise. An average read.
This author is obviously an authority in her field, and her method is right on the money. I would, however, recommend purchasing this book either on kindle or hardcover instead of audio. A third of the book is likely only to be scanned (since only a few minutes actually apply to any one individual), and there were several times that I would have liked to go back to an earlier section but was unable to do so due to the audio format. Also, there are very few authors who should be narrating their own books ... this is not one of them. The narration was average, and to do justice to the book should have been done by a professional narrator, in my opinion.
This book was an interesting enough read, but it was lacking in depth or continuity. It has the feeling of a novel in installments. Okay to pass the time,
I found this book to be engaging enough, but easily forgettable. An average read. 3 stars.
Lisa See is, as always, an excellent storyteller. This book is well written and well paced. Chinese literature is rarely uplifting, and this book is no exception. That being said, the story is about an important time in U.S.history, and worth a listen.
The Goldfinch is an odd book .... At times very engaging, at others not so much. The subject is not so much the art world as how young person(s) are affected by profound loss. The narration is excellent.
This book is sweet, but kind of loses steam at the end. Not nearly as good as Garlic and Sapphires. Worth a credit, for light reading.
This book is a collection of short vignettes, written in Maeve Binchy's comfortable, common folk style. Not as good as her full length novels, but I feel lucky that this one was compiled at this late date. I would recommend.
This book had an interesting premise, but kind of fell apart toward the end. Narration just okay. An average listen.
