Perhaps, given the title, I should have expected the language to be crude but I was not prepared for how crude the book was. I gave up after about half an hour of listening and finding nothing particularly amusing.

I felt that the writing was ok but the narration was quite painful. However, that was not what caused me to find this book less than stellar.

My impression of the author was that he is a bit self centered and I found that to be a real detraction of this story. I certainly did not find any great inspiration from it. For the most part, he seemed to be concerned about his wants and did not concern himself with what others in his life needed. He fathered a child which he ignored until she was 14 years old. Although he financially supported her (only because his mother insisted that he do so), he initially expected the mother of his child to abort the pregnancy.

This is a book I almost didn't make it through because I expected an uplifting story and feel what I got is the story of one who lacks a strong moral compass

I am certain that I will listen to this again. I found it facinating and liked the narration quite a bit.

The struggle these men went through was incredible. At times I felt like I was right there with them feeling their physical & mental sufferings. It was also enlightening to learn about some of the foibles of Shackelton himself.

My fear with books of this nature is that often they are written and read like a classroom history book. However, that was not the case here. It also did not have the feeling of a fictionalized version of their journey. The story was very real.

Could not make it through this one. It was simply dull and unable to hold my interest

This was such an enjoyable book to listen to. It did not feel like the author sugar-coated the story of Julia Child's life. I had read & heard how she had gotten started cooking and knew a small bit about the writing of the first "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" But I did not know much about her life after that. I feel that I got to know Paul as well. And to discover how she just kept going and going was amazing. She put her heart and soul into her cooking and then her writing. Julia was quite a character with a good sense of humor.

I feel the narrator did a very good job telling Julia's story. I was able to picture in my mind what the author intended.

At 25+ hours, I would not have wanted to listen to all in one sitting. Also, I wanted to savor it over several days!

I had high expectations for this book and it fell short - VERY short. This audiobook was boring.

I found this book to be incredibly enjoyable and did not want to see it end. Although other reviewers seemed disappointed with the ending, I liked the ending because it left the door open for a sequel ( I hope). And even if a sequel never comes to be, I still liked the ending because it was neither syrupy sweet nor awful and depressing. I know I will listen again.

The story was excellent and the narration was top notch. I did not want the book to end. Sad to believe that life was ever that way for black people.

This was heart wrenching at times. It is hard to believe that in this country we can't seem to do more to keep our children from such horrific treatment. The author seemed to keep herself together despite the poor care, disappointments, etc.

When I first started to listen to this book, i wasn't sure that I would be able to finish it. But it got good real quickly and become a very enjoyable listen. I thought the narration was great!
