Dystopian cultured living dead world. A humanitarian zombie protagonist. Great read. I loved how they made all these Iowa jokes and a big chunk of the story was centered in a sleepy Iowa town. Love Iowa! Anyways, there were many layers and backstories. The whole narrative was creative and inventive. I had never read a zombie book where zombies were just dead humans.

If you like post-apocalyptic fantasy with a good variety of characters you should definitely read this.

Wow, so many stories within one book. Everything so convoluted, but not in a negative way. Very intense. If you like excellently written nail biters then read this book!

This book surprised me. It was very well-written and the female protagonist kicked butt. Male characters were not cartoonish versions of masculinity. Instead, they showed vulnerability with strength, acceptance with viciousness. I thought it was fast-paced enough that it entertained me from start to finish. I loved how the main characters bonded by talking about their love of natural or fresh food. I also liked how there was a good balance of women and men where neither was portrayed as stronger or more useful than the other one. I must read the next one, I want to know where the mystery woman comes from!

This book was suspenseful, yet fun. I love Abby's spunk and how independent she is. It was cute but nailbiting at times.

Another hit for Molly Harper! It is packed with the wit, snark, suspense ans romance that we know and love. Fascinating and a great bridge to Iris and her story (in a separate book.)

It reminded me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Hot, masculine warriors working against the bad guys. The description of the castle/fort and the city below were breathtaking. It didn't hook me immediately, but it grew on me. I may read the second one to see what happens.

This book had a strong, but delicate female lead. It is a Historical Romance and has many elements of that. It caters to many readers. It was passionate and romantic. I enjoyed it.

EVERYTHING! The depth and breadth of the world Laini Taylor created had me awestruck from start to finish.

Every single character was rich and colorful. The story and characters melded together and formed a rich tapestry.

Never, but she is WAY up there on my list of favorite narrators.

This book may be labeled as YA, but believe me, it is not just for Young Adults. This book is a novel that happens to have a teenage main character. If you like colorful, exciting, magical and compelling narratives then read this. Loved it loved it loved it!

Maybe it's just me, but the book took a while to pick up. The story in itself is very interesting and there is a plethora of characters and supernatural occurrences, but it was a bit exasperating. It may be that the author was gaining her footing, because the second half of the book was interesting. I will say that I loved the main character's spunk and sense of humor. I also enjoyed her platonic love/hate/snark with her favorite author.

I'm on the fence. I may listen to the second installment when it goes on sale.

An interesting Paranormal Romance title. I would be interested in continuing the series.

Black Dagger Brotherhood or Lords of the Underworld, but with hot aliens.

I liked that the narrator conveyed emotions convincingly. You could really feel rage and the tremor in a character's voice.

The narrator sounded too feminine for the male voices, but that is alright because her timing was impeccable as well as her tone.

I got a bit flustered and almost teared up at times.

This is a surprisingly satisfying and interesting first book of a series. No stone was left unturned and I finished it with an immense sense of achievement and satisfaction. The protagonist is a strong, independent woman and I love books like these.
