It's a deadly dilemma for Martin Odum: both remembering and forgetting his past are dangerous options. A discharged CIA agent turned private detective, Odum is struggling through a labyrinth of memories from past identities, "legends", in CIA parlance. Is he really Martin Odum? Or is he Dante Pippen, IRA explosives specialist? Or Lincoln Dittmann, Civil War expert? Or another, hidden legend?

Legends is great because of the quality of research, writing and characters. The narration was excellent with multiple voices and accents as well as perfect pronunciation of names and places. This was a thoroughly entertaining book - complex and very rich. I have listened to all of Littell's titles and recommend this one very highly.

When a commercial airliner is blown out of the sky off the East Coast, the CIA scrambles to find the perpetrators. A body is discovered near the crash site with three bullets to the face: the calling card of a shadowy international assassin.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I tried my best to listen to this book but the narration is horrible. The narrator makes every character sound out of breath, near death or completely disinterested in their role. I just finished Command Authority read by Lou Diamond Phillips. He is a master at multiple authentic accents and made the book come to life. I will listen to anything he narrates. Scott Brick, Peter Giles, George Guidall, Paul Michael and Phil Gigante are the other masters. I will listen to anything these professionals narrate. Skip this Audible book and read it on your Kindle instead. Silva is an excellent writer (5 stars) and I have every expectation that this will be another great story. But, not as an Audible listen because this narrator is just terrible.
