Twenty-seven-year-old Josey Cirrini is sure of three things: winter in her North Carolina hometown is her favorite season, she's a sorry excuse for a Southern belle, and sweets are best eaten in the privacy of her hidden closet. For while Josey has settled into an uneventful life in her mother's house, her one consolation is the stockpile of sugary treats and paperback romances she escapes to each night.

I'll never know if I would have enjoyed the story. I couldn't get past the narrartor's attempt at a southern accent. Seriously painful!

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Kate Mulgrew was the perfect narrator. She embodied all of the characters perfectly. This is an incredible, spooky, disturbing story with a great, flawed heroine. I listened every moment that I could; I intended to make my next selection something light or classic, but I just downloaded Joyland by Stephen King. Summer nightmares here I come.
