This book had a grip on me from the beginning and never let go. Amazing content and very well told.
The first challenge that I had with this book was making it past the almost two hours of the author telling me what he was GOING to talk about before actually getting to the content in earnest. The analysis of each work feels a bit stretched. Reminds me of when I was in college and tried to BS my way through a essay by applying small amounts of theory and stretching them in an effort to substantiate my position. The narrator is un-enthused which adds to the pain. Especially grating is the attempt to speak with an Austrian accent when quoting Freud. All in all there are some worthwhile nuggets, but the work as a whole left me feeling 'MEH'
What a fantastic dystopian world inhabited by wonderful characters. I generally get impatient on the really long books but this one had me hooked from beginning to end.
I really liked the first two books in this series and have been chomping at the bit waiting for number 3, but this was a bit of a let down. I understand the need to change from 1st person to 3rd person to accomodate the plot, however either the author REALLY struggles with this change in style or perhaps the third person parts were written by someone else entirely. Almost every basic rule of narrative is broken. Way too much telling and not showing, too much explaining, excessive adverb use and generally awkward and unbelievable dialogue. It just felt like a young aspiring author trying to do 'too much'. There are small sections where he dips back into the familiar first-person journal style and it's like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes. Still worth the listen to see where the story goes, but not as enjoyable as the first two in my opinion.
Hearing Stephen King read this himself. His voice adds so much.
All of it. His tips are amazing. Understanding his past really makes it come alive.
It felt like we were having a conversation. Very 'personal' experience
Inspires me to keep writing
1) Only the second track has the subliminal messages. The rest of if is nonsense. 2) On most players you cannot loop this section as the tracks are downloaded as one big file.
Prorate the charge to 5% of what it is and provide separate tracks
NONE AT ALL
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS
I did not see in the description that this was a children's book but I certainly felt like it was.
Would need to find some to borrow before wasting any more credits
Angry that I used a credit on it
DO NOT GET THIS IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR FICTION FOR ADULTS! I felt like I was sitting in an elementary school library being patronized by the reader
Perhaps its the narrator, but our family felt as if we were sitting in a kindergarten classroom listening to this book. My daughters were excited in that they loved the Hunger Games, but this book really did not live up to those expectations. Possibly enjoyable for a VERY young child, but not so much for older children based on our experience.
