Slow but riveting. I like her pacing of stories but my guess it is an acquired taste. The characters are interesting, plot is fresh. As always PD James resists cliches. Recommend it to anyone who is a fan of hers.,
How often are you entertained and educated at the same time. Riveting expository writing, character development, and fresh writing style. However the chronical of the high jacking of the court by the political right often made me so angry. if my ipod were not so expensive, I would have thrown it out the window. Wonderfully told cautionary tale.
This little novel stunned me into immobility, and until I finished the epiloge I was in the world of Pakistani newcomers in the midwest. When I refer to the novel as "little" I am only referring to its length. It is a powerful big story of family, faith, love, hate and all the universal themes that make good fiction the moral compass for the 21st century. I have searched for a novel that could give the reader a look at what it is like to be a Muslim in America. Although that is too large a task for one little Muslim community, it does give the curious a direction to follow. It doesn't suprise me that the reader is the author. This is one of the most riveting performaces I have ever enjoyed. Please read this book.
Gripping story, wonderful reader, deeply etched characters whom you care about. What more could you ask
Such wonderful prose, character development, made me buy the book so I could reread portions of it.
Connely manages to stay clear of the genre's cliches and formulas in this one and the narrator is well matched to the material.
I thought Cold Mountain was a strong, original book but Thirteen Moons surpasses it in character development and the sheer beauty of his descriptions of nature. Thirteen Moons might have seemed better because I was listening to the wonderful interpretation of Will Patton instead of my puny interior voice that I hear when I read.
If you love beautiful prose, don't miss this.
