I can't believe I am rating a Vince Flynn novel as one star but here it is. How sad. I have purchased this novel in paper but I hate to read, then I purchased it in an abridged format, YUK, and despite the reviews I was excited to get the entire thing read to me. NOT. This narrator is really bad. I can handle the narrative parts but when he does voices Mitch sounds like a whining 16 year old kid, Kennedy and all women sound the same, like old ladies. It is so bad it overpowers the excellence of this book. If this is your first audible purchase do not judge audible by this terrible production, it is rare to be this bad. To audible, either issue refunds or get this redone and offer to replace this fiasco. To Simon and Shuster audio, shame on you. This is really inexcusable.
For some reason there are two listings for this book, one at the regular price and one at the 5$ price. I have not finished this book, only 3 more hours to go. I am finding it boring and slow. I am not interested in recipes when they are read step by step, other folks are. There is no story, no drama, just a memoir, as advertised. Anyway, just wanted to point out the need to check all the reviews for this book. Maybe they'll consolidate them.
Scott brick is one of my least favorite narrators because he over-emotes overlaying his interpretations on the authors words. I suppose all narrators do this but his way of reading with affect is very distracting to me, in fact, twice in this book I laughed out loud at his interpretation at a place that didn't warrant it. The result was I feel he changed one character from a strong competent person into a clingy needy female. The story is phenomenal, a wonderful experience. I cannot but wonder how many stars I would give it (10) with a reader I liked better. Sorry. But I can still recommend it.
I was in the 9th grade when JFK was assassinated and watched every second of tv coverage. Still the Jackie we saw was one-dimensional. Thanks to this book I now have a much greater appreciation of this amazing woman. Talented, smart, funny, and strong. Thanks Mr. Hill for giving me a greater appreciation of who she was.
Male voice is ok, at least it doesn't detract from the book. Female voice is not good, although I have listened to the before I still do not like the two voice format especially when she is so poor. Her voice does detract from the book. The book is enjoyable and I don't usually like this author. All in all not bad but not great.
I just reread the blurb about this book to see if I missed the religious aspect of it. I usually avoid books like that since, for me it distracts from the story line. Well, the story line of this book is God, everything else is secondary. Audible should at least note this somewhere. The high point were the narrators, they did a great job. If you don't mind the hard sell religion you'll probably enjoy it, for me, not so much :(
I would give it 4 stars if I didn't feel I had overpaid for it. Granted it is long but it is not so outstanding that I will buy any more of the series UNLESS they become 1 credit or maybe a sale.
This is a poorly crafted, confusing story with such poor character development that at the end I really didn't care about any of them. To top it off, the narrator is not my favorite. Sorry but this will be my last purchase from this author and I will think twice about this narrator.
Bummer. There are so many outstanding K2 stories that EV does not have to retell so much of what he already said in Shortcuts. His saga pales in comparison to say Julie Tullis or Wanda among others. Bottom line, you won't hear anything new in this one.
