It was just easy to listen to. The characters were likable without being too complex.

I have listened to many Lisa Kleypas books. I find her books a to be fun and romantic, slightly predictable, but always enjoyable. I choose her books after listening to a long complicated, detail oriented, "man against the world" terrorist attacking, special ops type books. I find hers to be a soothing after such mind bending stories.

If it was marginally good.

It just spent too much time describing fairly unlikable women. I found it difficult to empathize with these self involved, self important, boring women. I'm usually not so critical of books. But I was really disappointed after reading such favorable recommendations. I couldn't even finish it.

The narration was the only redeeming quality.

It was very hard to follow. It followed too many people for me feel attached to any of them.

I loved "live by night" so I thought I would like this one. I was very wrong.

I will definitely try another Virginia Woolf book, but never another Annette Bening. I hate to be so critical, because I really like Annette Bening as an actress, but I thought her performance reading this book was painfully dull and basically terrible. None of the characters had any personality with her delivery, when I knew they should. It makes me think twice about the other books performed by other celebs/actors. At least these new classics that have been promoted. I am still a huge fan of Will Patten as a performer though. I dont want to lump them all in with this poor experience.

I typically don't write comments. I listen to too many books, most of which I like a lot, but this one was considerably bad. Sorry Audible.

I just really liked Joe. I would want to be his friend if he were real. He wanted to be a good guy. I could relate to each character to some degree. It was just a really well written and narrated story.

Joe. He was so loyal and likable. I liked Dion too, even though the was a rat.

Yes. He does the Bernie and Chet mysteries. He is absolutely the voice of Chet, in a great way. His performance was outstanding on book. He's up there with Dick Hill.

Outlaw, not a gangster.

It was a great listen. I immediately looked for another Lehane book to listen to that wasnt a movie...

I didn't realize it was written so long ago or based on the 60's/70's. The story was good, i just wasn't expecting such antiquated dialogue.

I almost always finish every book I start, especially once I've invested time getting into the "meat" of the story. I had a hard time staying with this one, but it ended up being pretty good.

Engaging. Satisfying. Easy.

I don't know about the edge of my seat, but I wanted to keep listening. I had already listened to more recent Dave Robicheaux stories, so I enjoyed getting some of the background.

As mentioned before, I had listened to more recent Dave Robicheaux stories with Will Patten as the narrator and I was use to hearing him as the voice of Dave. It was odd at first, but I thought Mark Hammer still did a good job. His Cajun accent was great.

I didn't know what had happened to annie prior to this book. I felt for Dave when he dreamt of her and his dad.

I liked Mickey right away. He was struggling with tragedy in his life, yet he didn't use it as an excuse. He maintained the values he was brought up with, to help others. The people he chose be friends were quirky and funny, yet loyal and real.

When mickey figures out the bigger picture of what was truly going on with the lives of the people around him.

He truly gave a voice to Mickey. Mickey is young yet mature and worldly. He's dealing with very adult situations, yet is just a teenager. Nick Podehl allowed Mickey to be all of those things.

Mickey, Ema and Spoon made me laugh. Even the morons Buck and Troy added to the ambiance of high school scrutiny. I didn't like mickey's mom, even though I felt for her and her loss. I wish she were stronger. There were moments i laughed out loud. The moments Mickey longed for his parents and when he saw other kids with their parents got to me.

I just enjoyed the book. The way it ended made me want to immediately listen to the next.
