In Creekstone, Texas, a small, quiet suburb of Houston, football was king and David Temple was a prince. A former high school and college gridiron-star-turned-coach, he had a fairy-tale marriage to bright, vivacious Belinda Lucas, a teacher at the local high school who was so warm and popular her colleagues called her "The Sunshine Girl". The fairy tale ended savagely on January 11, 1999, when Belinda's lifeless body was discovered in a closet. Her skull had been shattered by a shotgun blast at close range. She was eight months pregnant.

Very interesting story that had me checking different sites on the net for more detail. Well researched with very little doubt about the author's thoughts on who was responsible.

After numerous beloved and best-selling sports books, John Feinstein returns to the subjects of his first 10 books, crafting a narrative of the most revealing encounters he's had. These are the coaches and athletes who know their games the best, and the legends and legendary moments that gave inherent shape to our favorite pastimes.

    Story

I've read most of Feinstein's work and I'm a fan but very disappointed with the content of this book. It's more about the author's struggles to get his ideas accepted by bosses, colleagues, subjects, etc. I would not have purchased this title if I had known the content. I was expecting in-depth interviews with the "greats of the game" not discussions on how the author was granted "full access". On the plus side, the narration is first rate.

If you're looking for a book on John Feinstein, then this is your book. If you're looking for "One on One Behind The Scenes" I'd look somewhere else.

Born in England to socially ambitious parents, Elizabeth Taylor was catapulted into child stardom and molded by MGM into the great violet-eyed beauty of postwar America. Along the way, without training or counsel, she became an award-winning actress, dazzling audiences everywhere with spectacular performances.

Not sure why but I found myself hitting fast forward a number of times through this audiobook. It just got a little tedious with the minute details of Taylor's diva life. I'm a fan of Elizabeth Taylor...but not this book.

Captured forever in a unique memoir, Frank Langella's myriad encounters with some of the past century's most famous human beings are profoundly affecting, funny, wicked, sometimes shocking, and utterly irresistible. With sharp wit and a perceptive eye, Mr. Langella takes us with him into the private worlds and privileged lives of movie stars, presidents, royalty, literary lions, the social elite, and the greats of the Broadway stage.

Janis Ian was catapulted into the spotlight in 1966 at the age of 15, when her soul-wrenching song "Society's Child" became a hit. But this was only the beginning of a long and illustrious career. In Society's Child, Janis Ian provides a relentlessly honest account of the successes and failures - and the hopes and dreams - of an extraordinary life.

The anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts one of the most dramatic stories in American history—how one gunshot changed the country forever. In the spring of 1865, the bloody saga of America's Civil War finally comes to an end after a series of increasingly harrowing battles. President Abraham Lincoln's generous terms for Robert E. Lee's surrender are devised to fulfill Lincoln's dream of healing a divided nation. But one man and his band of murderous accomplices are not appeased....

From inside the walls of Enron, a lone whistleblower attempted to avert the course of events leading to the largest bankruptcy in American history. On August 16, 2001, Sherron Watkins wrote an anonymous letter to Enron's Chairman, Ken Lay, laying out problems with Enron's use of partnerships to hide debt. She warned of a possible scandal that could topple the company if investors and the news media learned of the operations. Then, she revealed her identity and confronted Lay directly.

Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won 25 Emmys in its remarkable 11-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another.

Fairly light biography with lots of stories that Burnett's fans will enjoy. I like her work but thought the book was a little dated with too many references to how great the original show and cast were....after a while, it just gets boring.

Among the most widely admired Hollywood stars of his generation, Redford has appeared onstage and on-screen, in front of and behind the camera, earning Academy, Golden Globe, and a multitude of other awards and nominations for acting, directing, and producing, and for his contributions to the arts. His Sundance Film Festival transformed the world of filmmaking; his films defined a generation.

Not sure I know much more about Redford than when I began reading this bio. Lots of politics, environmental concerns, casting angst on movies but very little about Redford as a person outside of his activism, politics, passion and lateness. Very little on family life (beyond wife's politics, naturally) friends and co-workers (beyond their politics) and the experience of making some very successful movies.

I wasn't looking for fluff but expected more warmth and humanity...not chapter after chapter of "environment, canyons, development, politics, history, etc."

The narration is first rate...sounds a little like Redford but this is not an audiobook I would recommend.
