Would you listen to The Secret Keeper again? Why?

I stumbled on a Kate Morton Book through audible about 1 1/2 year ago and quickly listened to all of them. I loved, loved, loved the stories. Historical mixed with modern and the language is so, beautiful while not being pretentious. I was anxiously awaiting a new book and I was not disappointed at all.

    Any additional comments?

I am always amazed how Kate can transport me to another time and make me feel like I am there. I also get an appreciation for how we have so many stages in our lives and they all weave together. Listening to the beautiful prose is like poetry for the ears when you add a spellbinding story on top you get perfection.

From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, a magnificent novel about two unforgettable American women. Writing at the height of her narrative and imaginative gifts, Sue Monk Kidd presents a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and the desire to have a voice in the world - and it is now the newest Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection. Hetty “Handful” Grimke, an urban slave in early nineteenth century Charleston, yearns for life beyond the suffocating walls that enclose her within the wealthy Grimke household. The Grimke’s daughter, Sarah, has known from an early age she is meant to do something large in the world, but she is hemmed in by the limits imposed on women.

If you love historical fiction, you will love this book. If you are not crazy about historical fiction you most likely will love this book. I started listening after this popping up on my recommended for you section. After recognizing a few names I checked and was shocked to discover the story is based on a real persons life. This makes the amazing main character all that more unbelievable. I read about 1/2 the book thinking the main character was "ahead of her time" or a modern authors take on what she would have been like in the 1800, only to learn this person actually did defy the current beliefs.

It's just a small story really, about, among other things, a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak's groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can't resist: books.

This book is very different from others. The narrator is death. I don't think that will ruin it as you figure this out by the end of first chapter. I was very confused for a bit. It jumps around a lot, but despite these two difficulties it pulls you in. I was not sure about the book about 1/3 way in enjoying but not loving it. Once I got use to the style, and drawn into all the characters I was hooked. I will say parents of teens should listen first, it is in many best teen reads. I would let my 14 year old read it but my 12 year old I would wait another few years. Some parents may be fine with any age, but you should judge for yourself.

Several reviews of how this book was not as good as previous. I thought it was right up there with the others in the Matthew Corbett Series. Matthew is growing up and getting more confident and bold. He is still intellectual and thoughtful. For anyone that has not read the series, the first book, he is trully a child with overwhelming sense of curiosity and right and wrong. By book three he is becoming a man, with Sherlock Holmes skill and little 18th century, James Bond. So both interesting and exciting.

A mesmerizing, moving, and elegantly written debut novel, The Language of Flowers beautifully weaves past and present, creating a vivid portrait of an unforgettable woman whose gift for flowers helps her change the lives of others even as she struggles to overcome her own troubled past. The Victorian language of flowers was used to convey romantic expressions: honeysuckle for devotion, asters for patience, and red roses for love. But for Victoria Jones, it's been more useful in communicating grief, mistrust, and solitude.

Well done book, with the lead character so flawed, you start off feeling sorry for her, then with one bad decision after another, you start to want to yell at her. The author does a superb job getting into the psyche of the character where you can almost understand why she is making bad decisions. I found this the most interesting part of the story. The story of mother and child and falling in love are all done well but not as unique as the lead character. I would definately recommend as a very good read/listen.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

As someone whom adores historical fiction, this book was right up my track. I love books that tie peoples past lives to their current predicament. Kate Morton is my favorite author and this tale is similar to her books in that they look back in history to a time when the title characters where younger and weaves the modern with the historical. It was done beautifully here.

I also must say for anyone whom has gone to Italy, especially the Cinque and fell in love with the place, you will feel transported back. It has been just over ten years since I hiked the coast between Riomaggiore and Monteroso del Mar, and the words of the book put me right back in those towns and on those cliffs. I know have to get to Porto Vennere as well!

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
