In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes only four times a year and shore leaves are granted every other year at best, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I will recommend the printed book but not the audible version. Like others, neither my husband nor I could understand the end of his sentences. The first part of the sentence is fairly loud but by the time he is at the end of the sentence the narrator is mumbling. We we are thinking that it may be the production person in charge of the sound and not the narrator. After straining for a total of 1.5 hrs, I have given up and will ask for a refund.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Don't know as I could not understand what was being said.

What didn’t you like about Noah Taylor’s performance?

.As stated above, He starts out ok but by the end of the sentence it is a bunch of mumbling. He also doesn't have much inflection between the various characters

A RITA Award winner, New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr has garnered popular acclaim for her contemporary romances. Set in beautiful Northern California, A Summer in Sonoma follows the trials of four women who’ve been friends since seventh grade. As they teeter on the brink of 30, they learn that life can change in an instant—and having old friends to lean on may never be more important.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    1. It is extremely difficult riding a motorcycle with a broken hand in a cast.
    2. Napa is not in Sonoma County. Napa is in Napa County.
3 Sacramento is not next to Sonoma County.
    4. Why would someone drive /ride 3.0 hrs round trip to a deli for a gift basket?

The author needs to do her research when she is having her characters riding from Sacramento to Petaluma, Bodega and beyond. Although I must say, most people think Sonoma is in Napa and not the other way as the author seems to think.

More than 1,000 extraordinary Americans share their stories and the wisdom they have gained on living, loving, and finding happiness. After a chance encounter with an extraordinary 90-year-old woman, renowned gerontologist Karl Pillemer began to wonder what older people know about life that the rest of us don't. His quest led him to interview more than one thousand Americans over the age of 65 to seek their counsel on all the big issues- children, marriage, money, career, aging.

My husband & I listened to this book during our 30 minute commute to work. Listening to the various sections 1 at a time, we found ourselves discussing what we had listened to that day and sharing our new found knowledge with friends and family. I am hoping '30 Lessons for Living' will be one of my book group's reads this year.
