No one tells tales of the frontier better than Louis L’Amour, who portrays the human side of westward expansion - the good and the bad - before the days of law and order. With their texts restored to the state of their initial publication in magazines, here are three stories penned by America’s favorite Western author: “Man Riding West,” “The Black Rock Coffin Makers,” and “Showdown on the Hogback."

Would you consider the audio edition of Stories of the Western Range to be better than the print version?

My family listens to Louis L'Amour on long car rides and we really enjoy them. Easy to follow stories with authentic old west charm.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

easy to understand and straight forward reading

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

What made the experience of listening to Solomon's Song the most enjoyable?

Bryce Courtenay is brilliant. The Narration is engaging and the characters come to life as if in a movie. A must read. I am sure I will listen to all his work many times over.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Each character is developed and then redeveloped as the years pass between the pages. How can you not respect, hate or fall in love with these imaginative beings you feel you know as friends.

What does Humphrey Bower bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Humphrey Bower is an actor first, a orator second. I can not imagine listening to these books without his reading brilliance.
