If you could sum up Rise Again in three words, what would they be?

    Scary, Thrilling, and unexpected

    Any additional comments?

Pretty good zombie story. I like zombie stories that stick more to the George Romero version of zombies; you'll see what I'm talking about. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone.

I was getting annoyed with Danny and her need for law and order at a time when the world was becoming infested with zombies. If you are in a world plagued with man-eating zombies I don't think breaking into a store is going to get you jail time. She was the hero and I really enjoyed the cast. I didn't want to stop listening because I too was interested in whether or not she'd find Kelly.

    There were some scary moments.

What's worse than having to watch your sister marry your ex-fiancé? How about when that fiancé fires you from the family business?

Hyper-organized, event planner, Jaya Trudeaux is used to doing things by the book and never making waves. It's a strategy that's served her well until she finds herself in failure alley with no fiancé, no job and her thirtieth birthday looming. Maybe it's time to change her methods. Starting with an unlikely date to the wedding from hell.

The book was okay. It seems to me that the love interests of this particular genre is usually emasculated or close to it. While I read the books for the love story and what could be, I'd like there to be some realism in the story. A common theme I notice (in other books as well) is the over-bearing, over exaggerating, unwilling to listen, dead set in her way, always feels like the victim, female protagonist of the story.

Even good girls make mistakes. Kira Taylor was shocked to meet her boss's handsome, long-absent son and find him even more lethal in the flesh. He'd always been just a face in a photo - and nothing had prepared her for the way they clashed and burned when they finally met. Blake Carter returned to America for a reunion with a father he hadn't seen since he was ten. But Blake had never bargained for falling for his father's sexy secretary, the beautiful and impressionable Kira Taylor…

What disappointed you about Burned by Passion?

The story. Kira mainly, her character was the weakest person I've ever heard of.

What could Dez Burke have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Give Kira a backbone or something to make her a bit more believable. She storms after Blake to admonish him and she can't even carry that job out correctly. She tries to slap him, he stops her, she cries. Seriously. She gets beaten and she blames Blake and even justifies why it was done. Seriously.

    Any additional comments?

My two biggest issue are Kira and the use of certain words with certain characters. I realize that in moments of complete abandonment people lose all senses and take on a persona uncharacteristic of who they really are. But, seriously. If Blake is as refined as he is, then I'm sure he can express his lust without the vulgar, dirty (and not in a good way) language. I would imagine that someone as well-manicured as Blake would be articulate enough to express his sexual desires and frustrations with Kira.

Kira, well she should have been better developed.

Would you listen to Trapped into Marriage again? Why?

Yes, I thought the author did a good job. Articulate and well written. I like how the characters were developed and I love Keyonna more than anyone in the story. The author did such a good job describing Keyonna's pain that almost felt like it was my heart (almost).

Who was your favorite character and why?

Keyonna. She is such a sweetheart and I love how supportive she is. I love how she treats Nick. Nick is also a favorite character of mine because of us self-assurance with

What about Pepper Laramie’s performance did you like?

Good job, although I didn't too much care for Nick's voice, but I can forgive her for that.

    Any additional comments?

I hastily judged this author before I had a chance to hear this book. She was articulate and did a very good job creating a picture with just enough detail for the reader. I really hoped the book would last longer than 8hrs, but what can you do after Nick finds Keyonna?

I love the relationship between Keyonna and Nick. Also, THANK YOU for not creating a male character with no back-bone. Finally, a male character who has not been emasculated. I love how sure and strong Nick is, love his character

    Which scene was your favorite?

Nick's apartment after Raina nearly bombs her press conference at Sweeties. Nick tells her that he'll give her the child, but she must marry. He tells her that he can't breathe because she consumes his every being. That one night of passion was enough for Nick to know that Raina was his soul-mate and no other woman will do. I loved how matter of fact he was about offering to be the father, all the while I knew at any moment he was going to reveal his true feelings. The anticipation of his revelation and how Raina was going to react was overwhelming.

    Any additional comments?

I'm not done with the book, but I felt compelled to write the emotions evoked by Raina and Nick's passion. I found myself paralyzed by anticipation, waiting for Nick to tell Raina that he loved her. That, not only will he give her what she desperately wants, but that she had his heart to. I honestly felt like Raina at the time, imagining myself looking into his eyes. the author is brilliant and talented.

These romance novels are not helping my husband, at all.

Would you listen to Shattered Hourglass again? Why?

Yes, I love the writer and characters (except the girlfriend). The book takes you on a journey and I found myself scared at times. Like when the protagonist sleeps on the bus and it's attacked by one of the stronger zombies

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shattered Hourglass?

Well, let's see. The scene where he travels to the broken down house and is inside when the zombie with a (I forget exactly what weapon he has) hatchet is banging on the door. He realizes this is no ordinary zombie. This zombie is different and more dangerous than the normal walkers/runners.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wouldn't call it extreme, but I dislike when a zombie/adventure book (or movie for that matter) becomes detracted by romance. So, his girlfriend/wife did not interest me at all.

    Any additional comments?

Good book overall. I like the author, his writing, and how he keeps me in suspense. I eagerly waited and monitored for the third installment. I wanted so badly to know how all of this started and if he would find answer. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't, in fact, an alien. But, I loved it either way.

I love Jason and Jessica, hell I love Izzy and Nick, I'll even through Sabrina in there to because she really isn't that bad of a person

Who was your favorite character and why?

What a difficult question. Every character (with the exception of Simon) has great qualities. I can't pick, so I won't. I loved everyone of them (to include Sabrina)

    Which scene was your favorite?

OMG! The love scene after Izzy's open gallery. The love between her and Jason left me envious.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES! I stayed up until 12am wanting to reach the end. Difficult task as I had two hours left and had to be up for work at 5am (although I pushed my clock until 6am). I loved it, I couldn't get to sleep because I wanted to know so badly what was going to happen next.

    Any additional comments?

Ms. Nana Malone, you are talented. Please continue to write for this type of genre in the way that you've relayed Izzy, Nick's, and Jason's story. You are articulate and intelligent. I absolutely love the story and will be looking out for more. Please, please, please do audio as my job makes it difficult to read and work at the same.

Has Special Forces turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, just this narrator and author

Would you be willing to try another one of Quiana Goodrum’s performances?

    No

    Any additional comments?

I've been listening to audio books for the better part of four years. I've listen to all genres and have heard a range of voice actors. But, this is the first time (I can recall) that I've been immediately turned off by a voice actor. Ms. Quiana sounds really difficult to listen to. It's as if she doesn't understand the natural pauses in a sentence, sounds just weird, and sounds a bit too ethnic. I realize this genre appeals to a particular audience. But, I am of the opinion that voice actors should do their best to sound neutral and leave the characters (most of it, authors usually describe their characters) up to the imagination of the reader.

Imagination is one of the hallmarks of reading. The reader gets to define the space and characters with assistance from the writer. But, this is all detracted with Ms. Quiana's narrations. I think she should listen to a few (if she hasn't already) audio books to get an idea of what is expected from a voice actor or narrator.

Being dumped by her fiancé weeks before the wedding left Ashanti feeling unattractive and insecure. She was at the bottom of a low when her girlfriends convinced her a night out of partying and dancing would help to lift her spirits. Little did she know she would meet the man of her dreams. Not only was Hawk Malone a Marine, he was drop-dead gorgeous and, best of all, he wanted her! It was like a perfect fantasy come true...almost too perfect, in fact. But Ashanti was too far gone to worry about the clear warning signs. For the first time in a long time, she felt truly desirable and there was no telling what the resultant euphoria would make her do....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

In traditional book format, not audible. I did not like the narration at all. There were moments when the pitch of the narrator, giving the protagonist a voice, would become shrill. Then the way she pronounced or enunciated certain words was irritating. Reading it would have probably been easier.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Actually, none. Hawk's constant use of the word babe was annoying and out of place. Ashanti is not a good name, but I do kind of like her. Bertha is not a good name as well for someone supposedly in her 20's or 30's.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

sound of voice, shrill sounding at times, the way she enunciated certain words was annoying. She stressed words that probably should have been stressed to make or emphasis a point, but she did the opposite. The voice of the characters were not good or convincing. I realize this is a very difficult job, rather than attempt and fail, it may just be better to give all of the characters the same voice. Maybe, this would be better.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. I do like the erotic parts though. There was definitely chemistry between the protagonist and her love interest.

    Any additional comments?

I wish there was some background build up of the characters and some depth to the book. But, it's a short story and this is what it was meant to do...entertain.

A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

What did you love best about The Ocean at the End of the Lane?

    Lettie and the Hempstock family

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lettie. She is wise (way beyond her years), she's strong, confident, and follows through when she says something. She's compassionate and believes every creature has a place and that place should be respected.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Lettie walks up and saves the unnamed young man from Ursula. In this scene you witness the first glimpse of apprehension in Ursula.

    Any additional comments?

There are times when I regret putting off reading (in this case listening) to a book, this is one of those. This book is enchanting and keeps the reader engaged the whole way through. I didn't even notice that the name of the young boy is NEVER mentioned, this is true for his family as well. Apparently names carry a lot of power in this novel.

This book is a great read, which I plan on buying for my daughter. I think she'll enjoy this and the strong female lead we get in young Lettie. I hope there is a sequel, I would love to know what happens to Lettie, does she ever return? Will she still be the same or will she grow? What becomes of the Hempstock homestead? So many questions, I'd love for Mr. Gaiman to answer in his next book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Broken Prey to be better than the print version?

    I've never read the book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Oh god yes! He did a good job of throwing me off. I did not know who the psychopath was until the end. I am so glad it was not one of those cliche books where the killer is revealed so early on in the story that continuing seems pointless. I had to find out who this crazy man was and hoping that Sloan would not retire. They make a great pair.

What about Richard Ferrone’s performance did you like?

Love it. He did an awesome job. I loved the variations in voices and he read as if he wrote the book himself. He was intimate with the characters and the way he read made me feel as if I was there. It was so vivid and well done. GREAT JOB!!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes. When Lucas woke up the next morning and Weather was already there asleep. She loves him so much.
