this was a book I was looking forward to listening to. I thought, great I liked The Monk series,
I love the Stephanie Plum storyline, Both feature quirky characters, fun, and engaging.
The fact Scott Brick was narrating was another plus he is ok (but not in the Pendergast novels) in this case he droned on and on, did he ever vary his pitch or intonation? I thought Kate the FBI agent was another bad assed chick wanting to make it into the old boys club. her assignment given to her by FBI honchos was to recoup misappropriated funds and work with the con man she is looking to put away. I listened to the beginning, fell asleep, woke up at the last chapter, finished listening and didn't feel like I missed anything. The con worked the money retrieved and the end was a set up for future books .Kate has been reassigned to
catch our lovable conman with the million dollar smile he is a fugitive, and she will be hot on his heels, I'm repeating myself ... great plot setup for the future... Yes there was some sexual tension between Kate and Nick I believe it involved chocolate in Berlin and a candy bar, Toblerone (his big deadly weapon) at the end. .I will stick with Stephanie and bid farewell to Kate.. I don't think this will be a book I will revisit.....this was a ho-hum yawn fest..
This is my first venture into the series. the narrator is spot on.. the information on falconry, hunting, and the state of Wyoming is informative. The story lines are tight, It is a mind movie. I have downloaded my next listen already. , I cant wait to get into it....
he varies his voice enough to separate the characters and Nate's whispery voice makes him seem very mysterious
The West Is Wild
I hope to find a book about Nate
Will we have to wait with baited breath to see how the McKenzie's made it back to the ridge? I felt short changed.
I like the Archie McNally character ,carrying out discrete investigations Lawrence Sanders gets into the heads or the Palm Beacher"s., The high society balls, the excess, the snobbery between old money and the vulgar
Nouveau Riche, with conspicuous consumerism, face lifts, polo ponies, raising money for the "poor" (anyone not living on ocean drive) I think it's fun to poke holes into the sheltered lives of trophy wives, the pompous husbands, the over the top homes and life styles..It is all there. How fast can you drive a Lamborghini in Jupiter, Tequesta, or Palm Beach? Maybe 60 mph. What a waste.. I know the horror of I95 at rush hour, the "season" ( November to May) when the snowbirds come to town and prices at restaurants become double, not good for us locals. We just sort of laugh behind our hands and pray for hot steamy weather, to drive them up to their summer homes. These books are not literature but satire. For me an outsider of the Palm Beach high jinx. this series is fluffy mind candy, but fun never the less .
What a great introduction to the Dublin Murder Squad.,I felt as if as if I was getting to" Know"
the characters I liked the development of Scorcher and Richie ,Richie comes through with great interviewing techniques , he seems to be a natural. He grows into becoming a detective. The setting was eerie, sort of a depressing place to live. Nothing is what the home owners thought they were buying. Then a horrific murder occurs. This book reveals Scorchers devotion to his disturbed sister Dina. Scorcher is The Job and this is a big case and perhaps he can redeem himself, due to a botched investigation, he hasn't had a high profile case in a while. A voyeur has a nest where he can watch the family and tries to insert himself, He obsesses over times gone by. He enters the house
hangs out when the family is away just to feel her again. Broken Harbor, haunts Scorcher, due to his mothers death (suicide) during a family vacation. the story has layers of relationships, angst, dread, anguish. It haunted me!. The imagery created a movie in my head not many listens effect me this way. If you like police procedurals and want a walk into the dark side, this is for you, I must add the narration and accents seemed real.
I was in eighth grade when a friend raced up to me Did You Hear What Happened To The Kennedy's? I quipped No did Carolyn's pony Macaroni get loose? No the presidents been shot, I was mortified by my flip answer. I watched the procession as JFK was taken to lie in state. The caisson and rider less horse brought home the loss of this man. It was a frightening time the red scare, drills in school to protect us from nuclear attacks, Cuban missile crisis ,Mr O"Reilly digs deep into this special time known as Camelot, and the aftermath of Kennedy's assassination, The book is carefully constructed. Giving the pertinent facts as known. and what happened in Texas schoolbook building, the race to catch Oswald, his murder by Jack Ruby, The Mafia connection, is all laid bare. This book puts the events in order as it unfolded. Conspiracy theories still abound. This book does not put everything to rest. The Zapruder film taken at the moment the presidents head exploded into a mist is still studied. and there are uncertainties of how could this happen?. This book brought me back to November 22. On a personal note I had not had such a feeling of global consciences until 9/11
I found this story full of information about life in medieval. time period I don't know if it is totally historically accurate it follows the life of the main character set in about 1205 A.D.his talent with the training of Falcons brings him success, rising above his humble beginnings' I almost felt like a voyeur watching his progress,, his interaction with his family, his mothers is a blacksmith, unusual at that time period she is a craftsman sought out for her skill, ,the friendships he makes and keeps, the agony of losing his first love in a horrific murder, and his revenge upon the lord that stole the life if of this young woman brutally murdered , his child ripped from her womb this loss haunts him, he overcomes this when he realizes he can love again. he marries it brings him joy new passion, though.she is above his station part of the nobility they felt a connection and join their lives .with blessings from the king. I felt this story
I am a big fan of Reacher's exploits. I started reading this book and I was drawn into the story. I thought I would finish up with a listen For some reason the listening experience seemed drawn out. I fell asleep while listening it did not engage me..there are twists and turns , the FBI, becomes involved, as well as other government agenesis poking around , it has kidnapping, a mysterious murder, a blundered investigation, Jack becomes a suspect, he turns it around, ,with his fine honed talents he gets into the meat of this investigation all of the stuff we have come to love in this series, Dick Hill is on of my favorite narrators he brings Reacher to life for me. I think I will return the audio version and complete the read to the end.
this book has no positive attributes. A copy cat story. The narrator can make or break a book. Susan Duerden should me muzzled, that hushed whispery, voice ruined the whole listening experience. Her voice was beyond annoying. I was hoping, praying it would get better, alas not to be.. I have never been so aggravated. About 5 chapters in, I was out . thank goodness for audibles refund policy. a negative review well deserved. this is the worst purchase I have made.. keep your credit in your pocket.....
FIRST I ENJOYED BRINGING IN VIRGIL,LETTY (I REALLY LIKE HER SPUNKY ATTITUDE) WEATHER, DELL, AND THE GUYS HE WORKS WITH. REMEMBER THE CAT IN HITCHCOKS 'TO CATCH A THIEF' SHE KINDA REMINDS OF THAT TYPE OF 2ND STORY "MAN'. THIS BOOK USES ALL KINDS OF UP TO DATE TECHNOLOGY, . I LIKED THE LITTLE CELL PHONE TRICK LAUREN USES TO FINGER THE WINNER OF THE SENATORIAL RACE. LUCAS HAS IT FIGURED OUT BUT MONEY TALKS. A SIDE TRIP TO SPEAK TO AN OLD COP FILLS LUCAS IN ON LAURENS OLD LIFE, HE HAS AN ITCH BUT I THINK HE LETS HER SLIDE LESS GRUSOME THAN OTHER PATTERSON BOOKS THIS WAS JUST PLAIN OLD FUN. ONE MORE THING , I LIKE RICHARD FERRONE'S VOICE AS DAVENPORT HE IS THE "VOICE'
