From the incomparable Jane Feather, author of national best sellers Vanity, Violet, and Valentine, comes this enthralling new romance of daring deception and forbidden passion...Juliana drew the line at becoming a harlot. She had already begun the week as a bride...and ended it as a murderess.

As many reviewers write, sometimes JF hits the nail on the head and other times one wonders if someone else wrote the story! Initially, I thought this was one of the latter. As I read on I realized this book is written in somewhat of a farce form. Once I realized that I was able to get into the book and really enjoy the story.

I don't mean it is a true farce, but it has farce undertones. I'm probably doing a terrible job describing this, especially since I am one reader that don't ordinarily like farces, but trust me, it really is a great story. The pace is fast, the adventures kept me on the edge of my seat, and the steamy love scenes, well...they were great!

Like many of Ms. Feather's books, I found I did not like some qualities of the main protagonists, but there in lies her talent. You find you enjoy the book while disliking the characters! Pretty amazing ability in my humble opinion!

    I highly recommend this book!

For four years, Cato, the Marquis of Granville, had been just another man - the uninteresting, somewhat intimidating husband of Phoebe's older sister. But then her sister died, and Phoebe seemed a reasonable substitute. Phoebe's forced engagement to him should have been quite a cold-blooded arrangement...except that one day Phoebe looked at Granville - really looked at him - and saw what she'd never seen before: he was darkly, breathtakingly attractive

I initially read these books out of order and gave the last book a terrible review, I have since revised that review.

This book was not as good as the "Hostage Bride", for me, but I admit that was because the main female character irritated me to no end. But, the ability to make the reader enjoy a book, despite disliking the characters, is one of the things that makes Ms. Feather such a talented writer

Phoebe's personality is so intense and the things she does makes the reader want to reach in and give her a big shake! But then, when I was 17 I'm sure my parents frequently wanted to shake some sense into me!

Several other reviewers complained about the age difference between Phoebe and the Earl, and the fact that Phoebe is his daughter's best friend. I think we have to remember the time period and the importance of marriages of convenience during that time period.

I did not particularly like the Earl either! Yes, he is cold and remote, but, he too is a man of his time period. I liked the way Phoebe "seduced" him after having been married to him for a while at that point. Ms. Feather illustrates that although older and married 3 times previously, his perceptions of what women thought of the marriage bed was flawed, and he could learn from a 17 year old girl!

Yes, I recommend this book, but only after reading the "Hostage Bride". Then finish the series with the "Least Likely Bride". I think these characters will be with me a long time.

Oh, and I too wonder why Ms. Feather included the 2 little girls from the Earl's marriage to Phoebe's evil sister Diana. I find myself wondering if she plans to have them grow up totally evil due to being so totally ignored! I guess I just don't want to see this series end! Hmmm, are you listening Ms. Feather?

I read this book a few years ago and gave it a scathing 2 points. I either ignored the fact that it was the last in a series, or didn't notice. I recently decided to give JF another chance and boy am I glad I did! I read the "Hostage Bride" and was so totally engaged I downloaded the "Accidental Bride",which was not quite as good as Hostage, but was an enjoyable listen. I am now re-listening to Least Likely again, and now knowing the background and personality of Olivia, I can understand her angst and what had struck me as her silliness. This book reveals what the despicable Brian had done to Olivia that caused her to start stuttering.

Yes, this could be an ok stand alone book if the reader is only interested in the romance, but if read in sequence, it becomes a great read. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the "Hostage Bride" was the absolute best in the series for me. I felt a profound sense of "ok, I get it" as I listened to "Least Likely", and knowing the background, made me realize the pirate is the absolutely best person for Olivia!

This book also answered some of my lingering questions regarding how the families handled their different stances regarding the war and the exiled king.

Read the series in order and I promise you will not be disappointed if you like hot romance with adventure and mystery!

    Thank you Ms. Feather!

I downloaded this book a couple of years ago and did not give it a very good score. I listened again because I enjoy Rosalyn Landor so very much.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story this time. The characters were well developed, the story lines kept me engaged. I even found myself laughing at times even though the ending was evident from the beginning.

Ms. Michaels managed to keep the steamy scenes hot while ensuring "the lady was not ruined", no mean feat!

Dear Listener: My new story begins on a terror-filled night when two babies - identical twin girls of noble birth - are separated. One grows to womanhood as the frail, manipulative ward of the handsome young earl of Harcourt. The other becomes an enchanting, street-smart urchin who earns her way as a traveling player on the streets of England and France. The two girls' paths might never again have crossed if Harcourt hadn't run into Miranda in the midst of an exuberant performance.

Like many others, I have found I totally love some of JF's books and other's read as though she was under the gun to get a book out and just threw one together. The main protagonist in this story is lovable from the very beginning. I especially liked the way she contrasted the twins. I didn't like the main male character, and even though he did eventually get a little better, I still didn't like him! The fact that I remained interested and totally engaged despite not liking one of the primary characters, is evidence of Ms. Feather's talent.

Yes, I do recommend this one. The characters stayed true to how they were portrayed, yet still grew.

And, I have to admit, the steamy bits were quite...STEAMY! Always a good thing for me!

Anything with the name Elizabeth George on the cover will be purchased immediately! I actually purchased this book a few years ago, then my vision got worse, so I was excited when I saw it available on audible.

What a disappointment. I understood the short stories were not by EG, but I thought they would be up to the same standards.

These are short stories that I guess are supposed to make one think; all they did for me is make me hit the STOP button after the 4th in a row of boring stories.

Not worth a credit and definitely not worth spending money on as I did...

It is such a hassle getting a refund, but I think I am going to put the time in to get my money back on this one!

The surprising news that dashing steward Harrison Tolly, illegitimate son of the Earl of Ashwood, is the rightful heir to his father’s estate comes at a most inopportune time. With a wedding on the horizon and a baby on the way, a new life of privilege and prestige would be a blessing but for one problem: His heart belongs to another woman. Harrison keeps his desires for his employer’s wife, Lady Olivia Carey, so hidden that even she does not know of his devotion.

I love romance novels, and for me the sexier they are, the better I like them. While this story is not lacking in "hot scenes", it was just a little to corny for me. I prefer romance novels with a bit of mystery, or just a little more depth.

Justine Eyre's breathy, "tonnish" voice was perfect for this story.

    Story

I have eagerly awaited every book by Laura Kinsale. Her writing style is unlike any other's I've read. I have consistently given 5 stars to all of the previous books, and in all fairness I must admit this story did not disappoint as an absolutely wonderful story. I had to take one star off due to the heavy S&M. I'm not sure if this form of lovemaking was chosen because everyone seems to be jumping on the "50 shades" band wagon, or if Ms. Kinsale had some other reason for this change.

I am not judgmental, and respect everyone's right to do what ever they wish with another consenting adult human. I personally do not find pain erotic, and when I read a passage in which one person is harming another, whether it is in a savage beating or for sexual satisfaction, I feel the same level of abhorrence.

I read the other reviews and knew this book had some rough sex scenes, but I was not expecting that level. I found myself fast forwarding through the sexy scenes (usually my favorite...) so I could get back to what was a wonderful love story. I felt as though that element was just thrown in as a way to attract readers that enjoy books like 50 shades.

If you don't mind the S&M, or if you can fast forward through them as I did, you will read a wonderful book with characters so finely drawn, it is almost like watching a movie. And for that, I must thank Ms. Kinsale for another excellent story.
