More than just a fascinating account of how Arlington came into being at the end of the Civil War, On Hallowed Ground also tells the story of America as reflected in her greatest national cemetery. The history of the land on which the cemetery is built is as varied as our nation's, evolving from its earliest days as Robert E. Lee's ancestral home to a Union headquarters, a haven for freedmen, and finally a burial ground.

What made the experience of listening to On Hallowed Ground the most enjoyable?

When I purchased this audiobook, I didn't know what to expect. I was delighted by the story and the story telling. The history, the people, the significance of Arlington were all something that I thought I knew, but I really didn't. Definitely worth the read/listen.

On a busy Washington morning, the stately calm of the White House is shattered in a deadly terrorist attack on the executive mansion. The president is evacuated to an underground bunker, but not before nearly one hundred hostages are taken. Mitch Rapp, the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative, is sent in to take control of the crisis and determines that the president is not as safe as Washington’s power elite had thought....

What did you love best about Transfer of Power?

I read the reveiws, and everyone seems to have locked into George Guidall as the voice of Mitch Rapp. Since I had never listened to any of the other readings, I was not burdened by Guidall's voice being that of Rapp. I thoroughly enjoyed Sullivan's rendition. I don't blame Sullivan for disappointing those who are Guidall fans. Now, when I listen to Guidall reading the Rapp voice, I may be saying that he is not as good as Sullivan. Who knows! This risk of listening to a book, like that of watching a movie of a book...

So thumbs to this novel and the reader.

Orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the master's illegitimate daughter, Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adopted family, though she is set apart from them by her white skin. Eventually, Lavinia is accepted into the world of the big house, where the master is absent and the mistress battles opium addiction.

    "Well researched intriguing historical fiction"

Dynamic and moving. The characters were believable and one could connect with them. Good history through the eyes of common people. I recommend.

This is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker....

    "Good Story Telling"
    Overall

An entertaining story even if the main character is a native American version of Superman. Well told and unpredictable with a good reader. I recommend this rather unusual tale of adventure.
