After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

Simply put; I don't know if the book is good because the narrative was so bad. After I suffered through the first book, there is no way I'll get the next three. My dog could have done a better job!

Agent Pendergast has become one of crime fiction's most endearing characters. His greatest enemy is one who has stalked him all of his life, his cunning and diabolical brother Diogenes. And Diogenes has thrown down the gauntlet. Now, several of the people closest to Pendergast are viciously murdered, and Pendergast is framed for the deeds. On the run from federal authorities, with only the help of his old friend NYPD Lieutenant Vincent D'Agosta, Pendergast must stop his brother.

My first "Pendergast" novel (unabridged). I have to say that it could be a good book if only it was not obviously padded. It is and feels padded. Some of the padding may be to continue the growth of previous characters, but most cannot be associated in such a way. Probably a good candidate for abreviation.
The reader is superb as he made the length of the book bearable.
I also have to say that I hate the cheap cliffhanger ending (predictable too). Not a book I would recommend, unless you have been sucked into the series, of which it is apparently a part.

Excellent news, somewhat more objective than american news channels, but nonetheless freely availlable on the web and not consistently delivered at the same time of day.
