At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

My wife recommended this book to me years ago and I somehow didn't read it then. Too bad I waited so long for this treat. What a fantastic story. The faith of the people in this book is amazing and beautiful. I came away from this with so many reminders of how blessed the children of God are. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The narrator did an excellent job. Definitely one to have in every home.

You know we're out there, living among you. You know we're waiting for our day to come. You have seen the power of our legacies. You know this is why they hunt us. You may think you know our stories. You are wrong. We each have our own story. We know the time has come to share them with you. Our legacies are your only hope.

I was interested to hear some of the stories that go along with the series. I was very impressed with what the writer has done with one character in particular. I'm much more excited for this series to continue after hearing this story.

With the economy in free fall, the government crippled by indecision, the streets taken over by new political parties, and the fragile institutions of civilization crumbling, a young man finds himself homeless and alone on the outskirts of Washington, D.C., facing certain death unless he can master survival skills he never imagined needing. Fending off violent citizens in an urban landscape that is gradually sliding into looting and mayhem, the protagonist emerges as an ultimate force of justice in a lawless land.

If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know there have been some narrators who are bad, but this one is the only one that caused me to stop listening to a story. The story wasn't enough to overcome the narrator. If there was a 0 stars button for the narrator I would give it.

This first book of the Holding Their Own series, A Story of Survival, is set in the year 2015, when the world is burdened by the second Great Depression. The United States, already weakened by internal strife, becomes the target of an international terror plot. A series of attacks results in thousands of casualties and disables the country's core infrastructure. The combination of economic hardship and the staggering blow of the terror attacks results in a collapse of the government.

    Story

There have already been a lot of comments about how terrible this narrator is. I don't want to rehash it but I'll echo one comment: Nice voice, please practice your delivery. I'm one who avoids descriptions of sexual situations and was disappointed to find sex written into an otherwise top shelf prepper fiction. There were some technical details that were a little off, but the overall story is imaginative enough to let a person enjoy a good fiction and think a little bit about how they would do in similar situations. It's a little more realistic to see a hero get shot once in a while... This is much better enjoyed by just reading. If the narrator perhaps listens to a few well narrated books and hones his skill, this could become one of the most popular fictions in it's category. It is certainly above average in the story department.

They call me the Spider. I'm the most feared assassin in the South -- when I'm not busy at the Pork Pit cooking up the best barbecue in Ashland. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. My Ice magic also comes in handy for making the occasional knife. But I don't use my powers on the job unless I absolutely have to. Call it professional pride.

I'm not one for cursing or sex in a story. I had to turn this one off.
