Everyone is asking for more audiobook versions in the Malazan fallen series. I went to Brilliance Audio website and they will have "House of Chains" ready for release in December this year, and then the next book in the spring. Steven Eriksons fans will be so happy-- well I know I will. It's also fun to listen to previous books again and hear all the things I miss the first time through. Hope the news cheers you up. i have over 600 books from audible and I love this series. What a great writer. These plot lines are varied and not superficial. Encourages thinking. A rare thing these days. Ralph Lister is a darn good narrator. Separate voices for each character makes the experience fun.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This story plods and makes small revelations in a contrived way. The action is slow and the convenient memory laps are just irritating. If I can remember something from 2 days ago at my age then a young character should be able to remember something pivotal. The small revelations seem to be let out when the plot runs even slower with something that should have been known earlier. It just drags. I've listened to hundreds of audible books but this series is torture.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Wool

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Pronounce words correctly. Sloughed is slowed. Lately is lattely. More. Otherwise narrator is okay.

    Any additional comments?

The premise of this series is great but the execution should have been better.

Follow the saga as one of the most terrifying men the human race has to offer stands between Kaitlyn and Earth's survival.

Would you try another book from Terra Harmony and/or Emily Gittelman?

    Terry harmony yes
    Narrator NO

How could the performance have been better?

Different narrator needed. It's much like valley girl speak after an attempt. to try to get rid of it with a coach. Many sentences end with an upward lilt. It's also whiny.

The ravaged continent of Genabackis has given birth to a terrifying new empire: the Pannion Domin. Like a tide of corrupted blood, it seethes across the land, devouring all. In its path stands an uneasy alliance: Onearm’s army and Whiskeyjack’s Bridgeburners alongside their enemies of old - the forces of the Warlord Caladan Brood, Anomander Rake and his Tiste Andii mages, and the Rhivi people of the plains. But ancient undead clans are also gathering; the T’lan Imass have risen.

Would you listen to Memories of Ice again? Why?

Yes I would listen to it again. Mr. Erikson is a true writer. A step above The Wheel of Time series. Some is truly poetic.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Memories of Ice?

Kroppers (sp?) soliloquies are Shakespearean with a modern twist.

Composed in the last years of Roberto Bolaño's life, 2666 was greeted across Europe and Latin America as his highest achievement, surpassing even his previous work in its strangeness, beauty, and scope. Its throng of unforgettable characters includes academics and convicts, an American sportswriter, an elusive German novelist, and a teenage student and her widowed, mentally unstable father. Their lives intersect in the urban sprawl of Santa Teresa - a fictional Juárez - on the U.S.-Mexico border.

I am used to 20+ hour books but this is even worse than Anathem by Neal Stephenson. Pure agony forcing myself to finish it. I hate to waste money but this one is made to be deleted! Achem Baldi is now a cuss word.
