Halfway through and enjoying this book. It's amazing to learn so much about a guy -- that we learned so much about in school--- but really, we learned very little. Make any sense? Well, I've learned more about Jefferson and the revolution from this book then I remember l
"learning" in school. So, good read, time well spent. Readers and story get 2 thumbs up from me.
Not sure how the "Overall" rating got to 4 stars. This was one very disappointing book. . I've been a big Lee Child and Dick Hill fan for many years but "Personal" a personal let down. Mr. Child tried to bring it all back together in the ending but -- really, this was a slow, "phoned In" book.
When a guy way under 6' (As one reviewer accurately described as a midget) was cast as Jack Reacher for the last Reacher movie - I thought it could not get more disappointing - I was way wrong
Maybe next time?
Mr. Woods always does a good job with his wealthy characters but this time it's just too much. Too Political, too unbelievable, too bizarre. I'm a Stuart Woods fan but this time it appears he is no fan of his readers. Save your money and your credit.
I'm amazed that people still strive to be the best of the best when I read books such as this. Where the power of jealous politicians, lawyers and the general public clearly show that capitalism and success in America is no longer praised but reviled.
This is a great read/listen and gives some excellent background to what the main stream press never details.
I'm writing this as i've just finished the first 3 hours of this book and truly -- I strongly considered asking for a return. So far the banal babblings of Blue van Meer are about to make me drive off the road. -- I'll invest another few hours but, really - I do wish she would just get to the point already. -- More later
This is a good book - I guess I'm just overdosed on Scott Brick - his dramatic style of narration is just too much - at least for this book. The reading style had me mentally zoned out and spending way too much time analyzing the story line -- I never really just sat back and enjoyed the story, I was too busy hoping Mr. Brick would speed it up or just stop acting like he was performing some Shakespearean epic. -- I am avoiding any book read by Scott Brick for a while.
Maybe I've just listened to too much Scott Brick but this book was, at best, OK. Brick seems to make every singe sentence and I mean every single word of every single sentence dramatic. The book and the story is dramatic - in places, but not every single word in every single sentence.
The story had some good twists an a few action scenes but all in all it was ----OK
This was more a self proclaimed advertisement of Willie's liberal agenda and his views of how a talented song writer subliminally feels guilty to have made so much money using his god given gifts. This may sound harsh but to listen to the "rebel" Willie talk about the evils of sex, drugs and rock and roll, just did not sit right with his life time image of anti establishment. The book was entertaining and had some great plugs for Sirius XM and all of Willies kids.
I love your music Mr. Nelson, but I'll pass on your books.
Note to Self: First and foremost -- READ the reviews before you spend a credit or hard earned $$. This book is a stinker.
All the words and time spent preaching religion? What's up with that? There is very little story here and what there is is b o r i n g. I'm continuing to listen because - I spent the credit -
Lesson learned - Read the reviews and heed them.
Narration? Terrible - I made better girl voices when I was in High School - Phil, you need to perform on books with NO female voices. I just giggled when I heard your girl voice. Sorry - but you are getting paid to do this - right?
Next read? - Non Fiction or maybe lay back with a little John Sanford and Virgil Flowers.
This would have been a Very Good book IF the editors had taken the time to tell the narrator how to pronounce California / LA street names. It's Ce-Pul-Ved- A, nor Cepel-Veeda. Just one of many gaffs. Too bad as the story was mostly believable/probable but the mispronunciations were just too vast and cut into the enjoyment of the book. I'll try another but this one was a poor showing.
