The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

You need not be nearly as persistent as "the old man" to listen to this. The narration is about perfect, and as long as you can handle an unassuming, tender story about fishing for days on end you shouldn't have any trouble with this one.

Were you one of the several people on Earth who didn't catch every historic episode of the most-downloaded podcast ever? Or maybe you treasured every golden moment and want to preserve it for future generations? Now, all 12 episodes of The Ricky Gervais Show: The Complete First Season are here in one package that's far tidier than Karl Pilkington's thought processes.

    "The Karl Pilkington Show"
    Overall

I enjoyed this introductory season of Ricky Gervais' podcast. By the end, you're happy to hear Ricky admitting that it should be called the Karl Pilkington show as Karl ends up doing the lionshare of the talking. Karl's quite the eccentric personality.

I don't want to give too much away, so I'm being purposely vague. It would suffice to say, however, that this season isn't really about Ricky Gervais' comedy, but instead showcases his ability to see what could be entertaining, and his ability to steer it in that direction.
