Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

What did you like best about Redshirts? What did you like least?

Conceptually strong, very interesting premise, and the story takes some interesting turns. Sadly, the writer just isn't up to all of that coolness. Every large dialog exchange is poorly written and painful to listen too. The production and writing of this book felt very rushed.

What could John Scalzi have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Rewrite all of the dialog sections.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Wil Wheaton?

Yes, but only because I've listened to him do some other great stuff.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes, because it would deal with dialog transitions much more smoothly.

    Any additional comments?

This could have been a great book. Sadly I cannot recommend it unless the concept is enough to carry you through to the end.

Recent examples: A duel with the lethal champion of the Red Court, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...Hit men using Harry for target practice...The missing Shroud of Turin - and the possible involvement of Chicago's most feared mob boss.
