Wild characters, wild premise, wild ride. Philip Marlow meets Clive Barker. The first person storytelling and vivid characters keep the story racing along. Tongue in cheek references from Tolkien to Asimov. Good beginning.
Well told suspenseful classic combat sci-fi. The first in an epic series. Ringo knows his military jargon first hand. This is the juice. A+
Satisfyingly spectacular raising of the stakes from the first novel with the appearance of the Dyson sphere. Like the first book, very vivid combat sci-fi with a cast of dozens. The dronelike impersonality of the hegemonic aliens mitigates any guilt the reader may feel about the vicious pasting that they receive at the hands of the marines....
Combining the best elements of a human story with the cool effects of sci fi, this is a good example of a story that goes beyond being just another space romp. Great characters and a cool plot twist are worth mentioning.
Tongue in cheek but a lot of fun.
Story moves along and has a number of cool surprises. The characters are also very vivid. Liked this.
Incredible detail and suspenseful narration are what distinguish this long novel of space warfare and strategy. Cool Borg-like aliens also.
