"Excellent, as always, from Simon Winchester"
Simon Winchester has once again, researched in depth, and found a great theme. He has personalized it with his own experience, and turned in a superb performance!!
"Great stories of an unusual life."
The narrator's voice and South African setting.
Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight - also by Alexandra Fuller. This book has the same excellent storytelling and many of the same distinctive characters.
The Mother - this book was written about Alexandra Fuller's flamboyant, unconventional, passionate and loving mother.
Although I did not listen to it straight through, I could have. It is beautifully crafted, very compelling, and well-paced.
Alexandra Fuller is a writer of the first rank, and her reader, Bianca Amato, is exceptional.
"Subtle, sensitive and personal account"
This is a sensitive account of a grim, but necessary job, told by a technician from her novice first days on the job through many years of service. Excellent narration and pace, with great stories in a small town UK setting. Well done. Great listen.
"A wild one, full of mystery & the dark side"
Grand story, well-written, about a man overcoming disastrous life events while entering a phase of his life that is dark, deadly and life-changing. The array of characters in this novel are memorable and well-drawn. This is another great one from Stephen King.
"Fantastic story and performance"
As usual, Stephen King has delivered a fascinating, layered, compelling story. It's entirely character-driven and entirely unpredictable. Bravo!
"Sad time of life - well done; hard to hear about"
This was very well done, but the topic, that of a woman who's mind is in and out of awareness, was difficult to deal with - hard to stay with - all too real. I felt sad throughout listening to this book. It was well-written and well-performed.
"Excellent Reading of Poignant 1955 Essays"
This reading by Claudette Colbert of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's wonderful, small book of essays on the need for solitude, quietude and simplicity, and the dance of individuals as couples, is a quiet masterpiece.
"Palin shares his eccentric journey. 5 stars!"
A very personal account of travel insights from an accomplished observer and "experiencer" of life. He is courageous and has the gusto to share, and paint it large. Bravo, Mr. Palin! I loved it. - Carolyn Cole, San Pablo California.
