Loved this book! It's definitely a set up to a larger story, but it doesn't cliffhang, however it does leave you wanting more. There's a huge mystery that develops with more questions than answers and screams of some evil plans that need to be stopped.

The characters were all pretty well set up in a way that makes them complex, imperfect characters. I love the fact that this author never fails to present strong females and imperfect heroes. I

The narrator is very good, he adds to the story helping make it an even better adventure!

I'm heading now to get the next in the series, can't wait to see what happens next!

The original ending, book 3, left so many questions!! I wanted, no, needed more.

I was so excited to hear Nicholas Sansbury Smith was teaming up with another favorite author of mine to write a book 4 and give us the ending he wanted! Anthony Melchiorri brings real life science to everything he writes and I knew this story was one I had to read.

Let me say, they do not disappoint. From page one this grabs you and pulls you right back into that world. There are plenty of twists and turns and edge of your seat action. You see no way for a good end for us, no way that anything can work out, but you also can’t stop reading!

Is it a happy ending? Does it leave you hanging? I’m not saying. I am going to say it’s a must read story that gives you an ending that works and feels right. It’s a story that any fan of the genre will enjoy from beginning to end and wish would just keep going. I’ll also say I’d love to see these two team up again to make a series from start to finish, cause they make a great team.

What would happen if a viral agent was released on American soil? How would local agencies react? How would the military respond? What if it was one of their own? Would they own it or attempt to cover it up? If a major operation was jeopardized because of the release, would that alter any of the decisions? A potent viral agent, created to destabilize a region for forces to move in and clean up, is accidentally spilled in a metropolis. Those infected serve only to afflict others through any means.

    Story

This story had an awesome build up that leaves you wondering; what’s left to tell? Yet the fact that it’s a trilogy tells me there is plenty of story I still don’t know.

The build up is done so well; mistakes made, bad choices compound it and nature has it’s way. You see people trying to do what’s right only to cause horrible outcomes they never saw coming. This book makes you think, makes you see that slippery slope and scares you in a very real way.

    A definite must read!!

I love the unveiling of this story and the teens in it. My main issue was the military presence. Why are they such jerks? I get being hardcore in what they do, but I’d think they’d be a little more willing to listen to medical professionals and people who have been through direct battles with the infected already. Even if they happen to be teens.

I will say I’m not sure how much of the military coming across as jerks is the writing vs the narration, this narrator is hard to listen to, I’m holding out for when Eric A Sherman takes over right now. I know the narration will improve greatly then.

Over all the story remains engaging and I plan to continue with the next.

I wasn’t expecting the amount of build up, but it’s one of the few series I’ve read that lets you know what started it upfront. Likeable characters and a well paced story mean I’m ready for book 2 right now! Already have it downloaded. My only issue is the narrator, I have a hard time with his jerky reading style. Pauses seem in the wrong place and a lot of sentences end with the same inflection. Not enough for me to refuse to listen, but might be too much for others. If it is, read the ebook, it’s a great story.

Just when I think this series must be wrapping itself up it all explodes. So much happens in this book I’m still amazed. The things they learned, the things they found, the new characters.... whew! With all the constant action and danger surrounding it all this is an impossible to put down book! I cannot wait for the next one.

Is it wrong for me to say I hope this isn’t the real end of the story?

I loved this series, from start to finish. I laughed, cried, shouted and cheered. The characters all feel like friends at this point and I hate the idea of not visiting with them again.

Reed’s strength and determination are impossible not to root for, his love for Kate and their unborn son keeps him fighting against impossible odds. Kate once again fighting her own scientific war with Reed her strongest motivation. Rachel Davis, mourning for all those she lost while continuing her fight to bring down Woods at any cost. Fitz fighting an almost impossible war on foreign soil against enemies that keep evolving into harder foes, his determination leading him and Team Ghost on. Ringgold fighting to save our country from a threat even worse than the Variants, always fighting to do what is right. These people are our heroes for good reason. They aren’t perfect, they live with regrets, but they always strive to do what’s best.

The action is non-stop, the twists and turns dizzying and this, the final ride, is the most epic ride of them all!

This book is an awesome read and well worth the time, but don't go in thinking you know where this is going, cause you probably don't!
