My friend put me on the the first book, and I loved it, it was light, easy, and entertaining. So as soon as I was done with the first, I bought the audio book to enjoy during my 1 hour commute (each way) to work. I tell you what, this book made the drive very enjoyable. I highly recommend it if you're in the mood for an easy adult fantasy.
I would recommend to friends. My husband recommended this book to me, even though he knows I'm not really into crime/mystery/murder novels. This book is really a unique entity, while it's a crime/murder/mystery/detective novel, it's really more about the character and his past than about the trail to find the killer.
The last chapter or two were very interesting for me. I loved it and hated it at the same time. It was so real and gritty and human. We always want things to end 'happily ever after', and we want to love our main character all the time. The author pushes us to accept that the protagonist isn't someone we'd like all the time, and that things in the real world don't always wrap up nicely or end happily every after. I respect that very much, however it does kind of leave you hanging at the end of the book.
This book is a stand-out work of non-fiction. It not only tells you the author's personal story, but it provides structure and perspective from outside sources. And beyond that it gives you a message of hope and purpose.
As a full-time working mother, I swear this could have been my narrative spoken straight from my lips. I had experienced my breaking point not two weeks before I stumbled upon this book. It helped me so much to know that I wasn't alone.
After a few disappointing books in the series, this installment is back up to expectations with some humor adventure and of course lots of fun vamp scenes. Johanna Parker does her usual superb narration job bringing Sookie and her adventures to life.
The story is everything you could want from a star wars trilogy. You fall in love with the original characters all over again. The narration is wonderful and truly enhances the experience. The only negative thing about this edition is that there is a large amount of theatrical sound effects. At many points the sound effects overwhelm the narration, when they should be background noise to enhance the narration.
Loved listening from start to finish. The story was great and the narration did justice to every part of the story. I would definitely recommend it.
