For anyone interested in the subject, this is a must book and audiobook. I’m glad it’s on audio. The authors back up their theory with solid evidence, and the prehistorical narrative they tell is fascinating. The writing is clear and informative, despite being technical at times. I bought this audiobook because the reviews on Amazon are excellent. I agree with the vast majority of the reviewers that this is an exciting, groundbreaking book. I think the narrator does a very good job with the material, and makes Across Atlantic Ice easy to listen to.
I don't know why I haven't heard of Lee K. Abbott before. He is a master wordsmith weaving unlikely, sometimes laugh-out-loud stories about ordinary people. I was so taken with this that I listened to it practically in a single day. Ken Krauss has a cadence that matches the authors rhythms well. He knows how to stay out of the way and let the story unfold. A perfect approach to this masterful work. The author touches on a myriad of issues in this collection of short stories, including: relationships between broken people, the Vietnam war, and Aliens in Roswell. I think men particularly will find themselves represented truthfully in all their complexity. I highly recommend it!
I thought that this was a a great listen. I am very busy and don't have time to read as much I would like-especially on this topic. I listened while I got stuff done around the house and garden. I found the information to be very useful. She addresses common misconceptions about gardening. I found myself actually hitting my forehead a few times, having learned I was making common gardening mistakes. I now know what to look for when I go to a nursery to buy plants, and how to install them properly. I don't see this as a reference book, but rather as a great source of general information. I would recommend it to any gardener who finds they don't have the time they'd like to read.
I did not know what to expect when I started listening to this book, and as the book progressed that stayed true; I didn't know what to expect next. The story is hilarious and sad and surprisingly moving. The writing is bold and clear and audacious. Barrett Whitener's performance was all of those things too. His characterizations were brave and broad, almost over the top, yet nothing else would suffice to tell this wild story. He skirted the edge of buffoonery the entire time, and yet never crossed too far. My hat is off to this extraordinary narrator for doing justice to this extraordinary novel. Just buy it!! You won't be sorry.
