Jodi Picoult, the New York Times best-selling author of Second Glance and My Sister's Keeper, is a master at crafting powerful stories that are filled with suspense. In Vanishing Acts this acclaimed author delivers the gripping tale of a woman caught between her forgotten past and her uncertain future.

This is one of the best books I've listened to in a long time. The narrators' were wonderful. Having a full cast, with different voices for each character, led to an authenticity that you don't get with one narrator. The story was one you don't hear about too often and brought out so many emotions in me. I laughed and cried and felt so good at the end. Not many books will do that. Obviously, I recommend this book wholeheartedly!

No names. No Feds. No trace evidence. That's how Jonathan Grave operates. As a freelance specialist in covert rescues, he has to work outside the law to get things done - especially in highly sensitive hostage situations. But when an Indiana college student is abducted, and Jonathan's meticulous plan explodes into a deadly shooting spree, the local authorities are out for blood - and they're not alone. Someone wants to control a devastating secret...Someone rich and powerful.

Would you try another book from John Gilstrap and/or Jeremy Gage?

I was very excited to listen to this book after listening to Nathan's Run by John Gilstrap. I loved that story as well as the narrator. I assumed that this book would be more of the same but I was so disappointed. I am not quite finished with it and I don't even want to continue. I find the story kind of confusing but the worst part is the narration. The narrator's voice is at times too low or soft (can't tell which) but it makes it difficult to follow. I will never listen to another of this narrator's books again. I will probably try another book by the same author but hopefully someone else is reading it.

Would you ever listen to anything by John Gilstrap again?

yes as on long someone else is narrating.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Completely took away my listening pleasure.

Over five years in the writing, Alice Hoffman’s most ambitious and mesmerizing work ever, a triumph of imagination and research set in ancient Israel. The author of such iconic bestsellers as Illumination Night, Practical Magic, Fortune’s Daughter, and Oprah’s Book Club selection Here on Earth, Alice Hoffman is one of the most popular and memorable writers of her generation. Now, in The Dovekeepers, Hoffman delivers her most masterful work yet - one that draws on her passion for mythology, magic, and archaeology and her inimitable understanding of women.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This story was not only hard to listen to but I thought I would go insane from the narrator's voice. It is sad, draining and depressing. I stopped listening to it before I finished the first part!
