"Of course it's good, it's Jodi Picoult!"
Good story, well researched. I enjoyed the view into Amish life very much. (The ending was predictable from early on, though. That may bother some people, particularly since Picoult is known for her endings.) The narration was excellent: I'll be seeking out more books by this reader.
"Interesting history, fair story."
I learned some history I didn't know, and that's good. I was very disappointed with the character development. This should have been a strong, memorable story, but it fell way short. I would have much preferred to see only Sarah's story told. The current day characters were shallow, boring, and added pretty much nothing to the book.
"Loved it!"
Quality from the research to the narration. Pollan deserves a medal for the work he's done. This is a dense book, and is particularly well-suited to audio. (Quite frankly, I'm not sure I would have gotten through the print version, and that would have been a shame.) One of the most influential books I've "read" in years.
"Wonderful!"
A great followup to The Omnivore's Dilemma. Kudos to Pollan for his smart, high-quality research and clean writing. Kudos to Brick for a near-perfect narration.
"Satisfying... interesting..."
The scenario through which Mack travels is fascinating. While the theology didn't particularly resonate with me, I can see why it speaks to so many people. I did very much enjoy the imagery...
"Boring, dull, painful."
I couldn't stick with it.
"Can't go wrong with Jodi Picoult"
Capital punishment and Gnosticism are compelling themes, especially with Picoult's strong research and intelligent story-telling. A great presentation by the cast of readers too. I highly recommend.
"Loved it!"
Wonderful character development, good story. Especially liked the view into life on Guernsey during WWII.
"Enjoyable."
A nice story.
"I just couldn't get into it."
I'm giving it 3 stars because I really love what the book was ABOUT. I couldn't stick with it though.
