"Narrator ruins book"
The narrator sounds like Eliza Doolittle at the Ascot races. her stacatto word by word delivery was so distracting that it took a conscious effort to realize the meaning of the passage. Her mispronunciation of words also made it necessary for the listener to translate to the proper word. What a shame that the story was so diminished by the performance that it was ruined instead of enhanced.
No. It was almost tortuous to continue listening to the narrator's lack of comprehensible fluency.
Justine Eyre, Barbara Rosenblat, Davina Porter, etc.
The plot and characters were fine.
I am shocked that no one seems to be editing or directing the performance.
"I can't believe this was given a positive rating!!"
The narrator, Lauren Irving, should be given lessons in pronouncing words over 2 syllables. She misread seemingly every important word in both English and French. This disability made the listening both excruciating and frustrating. I was continually required to translate to the appropriate word which made the book laborious listening. I am shocked to note that this book had both a producer and an assistant producer. Obviously nobody edited this performance. I am furious that I wasted my time and money in purchasing this book
The ending was predictable and reasonable.
The narrator should NEVER read another book. Or she should go to school and learn basic pronunciation and syntax so that the story is given its proper due.
The narrator.
I would be furious if I were Wendy Soliman. The narration was a detractor instead of an enhancer of the plot. I never fully realized before how much the narrator adds to ( or detracts from) the book.
"Ruined by the reader"
Yes. The reader and or director were so bad as the voice of the hero ( Damien) that I could not maintain any focus with the plot. It is unbelievable that someone didn't notice that this character sounded like an 80 year old woman which made the dialog so distracting from the plot that I was tempted to ask for my money back. I was determined not to buy any more of the authors books.
The plot was imaginative and very different.
Never!!!!
Not with the same reader.
