Its hard to give an honest review of a book that has reached its final "chapter". Being an incredible fan of the series for half of my life, I try to judge each part on its merits.
This book has an incredible amount of warfare in it. I know its the "final battle" but I felt that it all lead me to a very anti-climatic ending. The narration was good, but I did notice some of the accents they gave to the characters were not the same as used in previous books. It was mostly in minor characters but I did notice, so I mention it.
As another reviewer mentioned, I would have like a bit longer final chapter with some details of where everyone ended up.
The narrator gets one star for being able to read. But! Did he even listen to the previous audiobooks? Even one? "CHARR is" vs. "CAR is" , whichever is correct doesn't matter. It is the latter which has been used up til now. Its change is like the fingernails on a chalkboard.
The story remains intact. And seems a decent continuation.
Very good story, compelling characters, and new twist on fantasy by an author who is becoming well known.
Starting with the first novel in this series being fairly good, we arrive at this one. It is about half the quality of Hyperion, the first in the series. As another reviewer said, the author goes on rambling about descriptions and names to places and characters that are utterly pointless and lets the main story suffer.
I like this story, but I getting the feeling that its slowly grinding to a halt. Its mentioned in the book about 20 years are left before a big event. Well, reading this has me feeling 20 years will elapse before we get to a point. And what of the protagonist? Almost no Nimue / Merlin. I understand other character development is important but, where is the protagonists actions? Surely playing guard isn't the sum of a "superior" beings involvement.
As for the performance, Mr. Keating has proven he can read, I will give him that. But did he even listen to the other books in the series? I can live with the change in character accents, barely. But his name pronunciation SUCKS! Or more to the point, it doesn't even match the other books!
