"E.L. Doctorow at his best!"
Yes yes yes....so complex and well read I would love to listen to it again like a great record album. I had already read the hard cover years ago, and this was fresh as ever!
The Great Gatsby, Forrest Gump, Benjamin Button....an epic tale of interesting characters through which you see an era come and go.
Not sure...he was wonderful.
Yes....it made me recognize the genius of a great author like E.L.Doctorow who can turn the story of a pair of eccentrics (who might easily be exploited on reality TV today,) into a work of art.
Once you read Homer & Langley, if you love it, you will want to read everything EL Doctrow has ever written. Every last short story collection, his famous 'Billy Bathgate
"Great story by an even greater reader!"
Yes...Claire Danes certainly out reads me!!
Of course, ""Hunger Games" comes first to mind...but so does "The Chose One" and I put it on par with Kate Winslet's reading of "Terez Raquin" in narrative quality and twisted romance!
Her perfect pitch of dead emotion with pleading description. You can see her in the part and it feels like a block buster film.
Both the main character (Offred) and her true love. I'm sure they'd have stories to tell!
Not to be missed! Should be on A-list, if it isn't already!!
"A Sweet Life Affirming Read!!!"
In the top 25
Elegance of the Hedgehog....profund but sweet and unexpected
Elegance....since I am American, his British accent (and my wonderful image of him) was the icing on the cake!!!
How far would you walk to save a friend?
Magnificent from beginning to end with many jolts of surprise, both in clever prose and plot. The renewal of love lost is infectious.
"No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency Delivers Again"
Lisette Lecat's narration has made all of this series joyful. This one has such a fun surprise I don't want to write a spoiler review, but it was sheer genius to bring in the "guest character" so to speak.
It held all the same high standards as McCall Smith's other 12 books, with a very cool surprise that could really only be appreciated after listening to the entire series (in my opinion!)
The entrance of the special character and the way this plot line played out to the very end.
Botswanan Idol
"Quintessential Ladies Detective Agency"
Top 1/4....always sweet, suspenseful, yet full of heavy topics, good morals and chuckles.
I love the quirky repetitiousness of the characters personalities and names...it adds a unique humor and lightness to even some very serious topics.
Her accents are gorgeous and she makes the Botswanan atmosphere come alive.
Mme. is back!
"Brilliant performance of Steinbeck's sweetest tale"
Absolutely! Lenny and George are embodied with Gary Sinese's voice and it's a home run!
The tangled kindness and tolerance of Lenny by George...and the brilliant foreshadowing of their sad fate.
His image matches George in my head and he flat out nails Lenny and the other characters as well!
Steinbeck's beloved tale
"Better than reality TV...a truly wicked romance!"
With Kate Winslet reading it, I'm sure that it is! I have not read the print version.
The originality of Emile Zolde's take on the world's oldest tale of passion and obsession gone bad. You feel yourself going mad with the characters...(or was that Kate Winslet's doing?)
I had three....the opening stage of Mother/Aunt and cousins and her determination to stay
"Don't pass over this one...it is a life-changer!"
The enchanting
It immediately increased my love of dogs. It also made me remember that great literature can come in many forms. And the more unexpected the form the more it jars you!
He presents the wondrousness and fragility of being human through the adoring, envious and hopeful eyes of Enzo the dog. The world of auto racing is revealed in a clever way that leads to profound concepts of living.
And oddly, it was a revelation that dogs might actually be better off not having this full awareness.
Nothing! It was perfect.
This is a modern classic...in league with
