Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

This was a nonstop scare because it is much, much too possible. If you've ever lost power for a day, a week or months you'll have some idea of what could happen. This is a look at what happens to good people in bad times. Highly recommend.

Having inspired a classic film and Broadway play, The Caine Mutiny is Herman Wouk's boldly dramatic, brilliantly entertaining novel of life—and mutiny—on a Navy warship in the Pacific theater. It was immediately embraced upon its original publication as one of the first serious works of American fiction to grapple with the moral complexities and the human consequences of the Second World War. In the intervening half century, this gripping story has become a perennial favorite, selling millions throughout the world, and claiming the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Four young women have been found murdered—tortured and strangled in their own beds—all victims of the same brilliant monster. The Scarpetta Novels provide more "meat" to the characters. They are well developed with great dialogue. There are plenty of turns and twists. But there is none of the gratuitous sex and needless violence. Just plain old fashioned interesting detective work.

Ex-reporter Joe Winder had been working in the public relations department of a sleazy family entertainment park, The Amazing Kingdom of Thrills, when he chanced upon a news-breaking story inspired by the disappearance of two blue-tongued voles and the bizarre death of Orky, the killer whale.

"Of all of my novels, After the Night remains one of my personal favorites – and Faith Devlin and Gray Rouillard are two of my favorite characters. Faith is strong, proud, and fearless, and Gray – well, he’s just downright sexy. Faith’s search for the truth about the devastating scandal surrounding her mother and Gray’s father blazes with intrigue. Add some sultry Southern hear, and you’ve got a real scorcher of a listen." Could have been a good story except for the gratuitous and repetitive sex scenes. I started fast forwarding to try to get to the real story. I get it the main characters are hot for each other..............I'm no prude but enough already. Narrator did a great job.

This one just kept me guessing until the very last minutes. Wonderfully drawn characters and of course Edward Hermann narrating. Not your routine mystery.

When a racially-motivated murder nearly three decades old churns back to the surface, Robicheaux is confronted by mob bosses, corrupt police chiefs, and even dirtier politicians. Despite his efforts to stay clear of the action, he is inevitably drawn into the center of the conflict as evidence points to the current resident of the governor's mansion. Can Robicheaux uncover the truth and stay one step ahead of the people who want him silenced?

    "Poor Editing"
    Overall

I enjoy this series. However the editing on this book was very poorly done. There were gaps in between chapters which left out parts of the narrative. I have 407 books in my Audible library. This is the first time I've run into a problem this annoying. The story itself was wonderful as always but I gave it 3 stars due to the gaps.
