Raised in the historic southern splendor of Natchez, Mississippi, Penn Cage learned all he knows of honor and duty from his father, Dr. Tom Cage. But now the beloved family doctor has been accused of murdering Viola Turner, the African-American nurse with whom he worked in the dark days of the 1960s. Penn is determined to save his father, but Tom, stubbornly invoking doctor-patient privilege, refuses to even speak in his own defense.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to a friend.

What three words best describe David Ledoux’s performance?

    No different characters.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    YES

    Any additional comments?

It's really a better than average story, and the narrator is okay unless your a fan of Penn Cage stories and Dick Hill as the narrator for them. I couldn't really tell without backing up sometimes who was "talking" because the characters all sounded mostly the same. But overall it was pretty dang good...I would say I HATED the ending but it leaves room for another book and that makes me happy. Maybe Dick Hill could do the "regular" characters and David Ledoux could do new and extra. I don't know...

Born in 1901 in the slums of Brooklyn, Francie Nolan has grown up under the burden of suffering that is the lot of the great city’s poor. Romantic like her father, an Irish singing waiter, yet pragmatic like her mother, a housecleaner and fierce survivor, Francie uses her imagination and tenacity to thrive in the world in spite of these harsh conditions.

What disappointed you about A Tree Grows in Brooklyn?

The story goes all over the place and the accents keep me so confused, I have no idea who is talking to whom.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not sure...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    The terrible accents.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I think I would like to read it in paper...just not a good listen!
