"A Love Story for SciFi Fans"
This book feels like it was designed to be listened to! While not truly SciFi, the time travel in this book makes a well written relationship book incredibly accessible to the man in the car, while your wife hears a love story with a few extra quirks.
This is one of those rare books we listened to together where neither of us felt like we would rather be listening to anything else! We talked about it for hours.
An excellent, enjoyable, well paced listen!
"Definitely Heinlein"
This book, while well written isn't Heinlein's best. The book has a grand premise and wonderful characters, but seems to be a little to centered on and preachy regarding sex. I'm not a prude and don't mind books with a sexual undercurrent or even theme, but in this case it detracted a little from the masters story for me. Granted Heinlein was rebelling against a rather puritanical society at the time and in that light it is understandable.
However, even with that criticism, this book is a great read. Exploring the psychology of being thrst into a new body, let alone one of the opposite sex is fascinating.
Read it, just don't make it your first Heinlein novel!
"Brilliant"
Forget the Will Smith movie. This is a fantastic novel!
Post apocalyptic madness and mayhem with a hero, zombies and excellent writing set in 1950s L.A.
Not an action packed novel, but a well thought out, well written analyses of life after Richard Matheson's doomsday. You may have to help your kids understand what a record player is, but this is an excellent listen!
"Required Reading"
Is it narcissistic? Yes. Can parts be meandering and seem out of place? Sure.
But this book gives real insight into how the personal computer industry was born.
In this current era, where Steve Jobs seems more like an Imperialistic Dictator it is easy to forget that Apple really sprang from the genius of Steve Wozniak. It is a really interesting read which explains a great deal about where Apple's sprang from.
"King at his best!"
My favorite Stephen King novel yet! Incredible storytelling and an over the top imagination combine with an incredible reading to make this an incredible novel. Listened to it on a trip and it was over before you knew it and left me ready for the sequels!
"Loved It!"
In the fine tradition of juvenile novels written by the likes of Heinlein, it was a fast, entertaining and easy to follow book. David Tennant's reading of it made it all the more believable. From the bits where he is playing the Doctor to the narrations where his regional accent becomes more pronounced he is a skillful orator.
"An enjoyable listen!"
While his research may not hold up to the levels of Tom Clancy, his story telling is certainly more than a match and leads the other authors of the genre.
Card manages to critique the radicalism of the left and the right, without coming to judgment on their respective viewpoints, while showing the inherent endgame of radicalism on either front, Totalitarianism.
The premise is very well thought through, the characters are believable, and while my personal beliefs may conflict with the details, yes I am a Conservative, the story is well written and well read, making for a very enjoyable listen!
A must for any Card fan!
