"Only read if you are a Neuroscience junkie."
If the author had written a more engaging narrative that would help his readers apply his findings to their own lives, much more like the "Down the Rabbit Hole" movies. The author spends most of his time trying to prove how right he is. It reads more like a dissertation than a book one might buy to leaner more about the fascinating field of neuroplasticity.
Yes.
He's a little dry. I know the material is very dry, but adding more inflection might have helped keep me engaged.
Annoyance and disappointment.
"Imaginative but fails to connect"
Probably not. The writing style is a little cold and makes it very difficult to connect with any of the characters. By the time the book was over, I just didn't care what happened to everyone.
Make his characters more likeable and more 3-dimensional.
No. Choosing a male actor to narrate a piece with mostly female protagonists doesn't make sense.
Only to never read another Maguire novel.
This book could have been really exceptional, but the writer spent way too much time on metaphorical ideas and simile descriptions and not nearly enough time on the interactions between the characters and how to make his readers connect with them.
"Great story, truly unique and well written!"
Top Ten
She's too old for the part of a 16-year-old girl. She sounded kind of whiny.
This is a great read for just about anyone, not just teenagers. I truly enjoyed the characters and the story. I didn't want it to end! If you like romance, adventure, and futuristic dystopian stories, this is fantastic!
"A great read for all working women!"
I already have! As a working mom, it is so difficult to balance your "responsibilities" with your dreams. Whether you like Mika or not, her story gives wonderful guidance based on real experiences by successful women and many male employers and it is written in a compelling format that most women will find engaging and easy to follow.
The inequities in salary based on sex is a fact. This book can help you grasp how to navigate that very rocky road while also giving voice to the frustrations that all working women and moms (whether you are working or not) face on a daily basis.
"A great addition to the series!"
Yes, and I have. The ending is great, although it does tend to wander a bit in the middle.
great to get more insight into Christian's background and love the additional characters.
"My favorite of the trilogy!"
Yes! The plot is intriguing, the characters are even more interesting than the first, and the ending is great!
The best of the three.
"Great story, wish the writing were better"
The characters were really engaging and the story was very well crafted.
EL James is not the best writer in terms of her descriptions and use of variation, but her characters are very engaging and the story kept me hooked. Good job!
"Great story!"
One of the best.
She's too old for the part of Katniss.
It's a really unique and creative story. Great characters, interesting plot. Definitely a good listen.
"Good, but probably more effective in paper version"
Probably not. It's hard to work on all the concepts when you have to stop and start the audio version. I think this is one of those books that is probably better when you can actually flip back and forth to certain pages.
It's great to hear the author read the book! He brings a real connection to the material.
Definitely worth the listen because it's great book, but probably better in paper form.
"Just a sex book. Not that interesting."
If I cared at all about the characters. The entire plot was just completely unbelievable, which would have been fine if the author had taken her time to really develop the relationship between the two main characters. It felt like the "plot" was just a way to connect the sex scenes (which were good).
No.
She did a great job. She really committed 100%. She did not shy away from any of the explicit material and tried to make the rest of the plot as interesting as she could.
I feel like Sylvia Day is probably a better writer than this book shows her to be. I wonder if her editor made her keep it short or something.
Fifty Shades was a better story, even if Day is a better writer.
"Not great but not bad- Good if you like fantasy."
It was okay. Very creative, but I just couldn't really get into it. I bet if I was younger or a teen, I'd love it. The narrator did a great job! she nailed the dialects and each voice was very specific.
