I wasn't sure I'd like this but, I was looking for a light read. It was a light read but was full bodied so to speak. The characters were fleshed out and the story was full and complete. The author took something that could have been pure fluff and really created a full and entertaining story. I liked the characters. And the reader did an excellent job. She's done other books I've read and she never disappoints.
It just felt like she was trying too hard to write about a character that had experiences she couldn't capture and make her a hero. But, it was more painful than not because Arizona was just mostly irritating. It felt like Ms. Foster was struggling the entire time to write this and make it more readable. I won't say it was bad, but I don't think I'll be able to finish it. I usually like L. Foster for a nice light read. But, this one just seems too disconnected with different story leads that don't quite connect together.
Could have been good. But nasty public men's restroom stalls, among other other situations are just nasty. The lack of simple sanitation is a major turn off. Oh, here are some used sheets everyone has been on, let's do it here. Oh, look a disgusting men's public restroom, perfect! Yuck, no thank you.
The story was good but needs something. Starting to be just a touch stale. Love the narrator. Still a really good read and story. Needs a lot more Darcy. Move them along. Feels like Gilligan's Island. They'll never progress past this point.
Having a psych degree myself I was very familiar with Jung, introverts and extroverts so usually I don't really get anything new out of these books. And being an introvert myself I was really surprised at this book. I hadn't realized the impact on energy. Or rather when she gave more examples of day to day that put it in different perspective. Usually the discussion is more abstract rather than practical daily application.
it really brought home to me my current chronic fatigue. I have an extremely extroverted son and husband. My husband was never a problem because he was independent. Her description of her Vegas trip with her extrovert husband was EXACTLY like mine. I slept while he won money at the casino.
I never really thought about the energy factor though and how it's draining to keep up with an extrovert. My son was highly active even in the womb. And if I didn't wear him out he would not sleep. He and his dad can get about 5 hours of sleep and be bright eyed and bushy tailed. My other son and I need at least 7-8 hours and more alone and quiet time. I was pondering what was wrong with me as we were ending this 7 day a week summer as I allowed my son to be on the swim team, which is 6 days a week, plus work as a life guard, plus volunteer at the zoo. I made him give up his Martial Arts class and drama club until after swim season. But we still ended up with a 7 day a week schedule, with multiple activities some days for the last 5 months. I literally felt like I was going crazy, being tortured and slowly killed all at the same time. If I'd had some time to reflect and recharge I would have realized sooner that I'd never before tried to keep up with an extrovert. My son is only 15 so I have been the mom taxi and have to socialize and be out and about far more than I would have ever dreamed and he is in seventh heaven. He does not feel over scheduled. This is the first time I've let him do so many activities at once. I was sure he'd be overwhelmed by now. Now I realize why he is always so ready to go and he cannot sleep at night if he doesn't swim, work out at the gym or do several hours of his martial arts class. He is the reason he and his brother started swimming on at team at age 5. It was the only sport that had practice 5 days a week and twice in the summer. But, without it he would not sleep.
overall, it was very insightful.
Overall I liked the story. Though it was a bit surprising how Ellie's parents and family tolerated a B like Eva. You can totally see how she turned out the way she did since the parents didn't straighten her out when she acted like a capital B. she was an irritating distraction from an otherwise good story. The other characters were likable and interesting.
Even Ellie gave in and attended the event at the end. Granted, things happen in families and everyone must find a way to get over them. But, all I saw was everyone accommodating this despicable person and acting as if they didn't know how she'd gotten that way. In a case like that she'd be better off not knowing her, sister or no.
Really liked this story. Had the right balance of adventure, heat and spunk. The heroin was no helpless damsel and the story was good. Characters were likable. This was my first book by this author. Will definitely read more.
Though I thought it would be a stretch for a woman to be able to quickly change herself to a man if she were as feminine as described and stay undiscovered in close quarters, the story was engaging enough and entertaining enough to overlook this. Overall, the story was light and entertaining. Nothing too intense or deep and bordering on implausible. But, if your looking for light and breezy, a little humor, and romance this will do the trick.
I got this on a whim fearing that it would be at best a poor attempt at the trending super natural thing. But, I was grabbed right away and couldn't put it down. I totally enjoyed it. The characters are interesting and well developed. And, it's a great story that continues in the other books. I have since read the three that are currently out and await the next.
I so enjoy these books. It's just the right balance of mystery, humor and a little romance. They are not exactly light reads but, easy reads and just totally enjoyable. The characters are great and K. Kellgren just does a great job of bringing the characters to life. I have read them all and can't wait for the next. Hope her more serious series comes to audible and hope it's just as good.
I am enjoying this series. They are light reads but not lacking in quality. The author has done a great job and the reader is so good. If your looking for a light read but nothing too intense these are great. They have all the care and development but remain fairly light and totally enjoyable.
