Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genuis, and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories, they're dangerous! Full of unexpected twists and turns, Artemis Fowl is a riveting, magical adventure.

I am always grateful when I find a book that entertains both my grandson and myself. Eoin Colfer has a great many books that fit that bill and Artemis Fowl is my favorite of them. When you would like to relax and fall asleep with silver words paving the way, Nathaniel Parker is a good choice for a narrator. This is a book I was able to listen to several times. Enjoy! Nan

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

As an adult with thousands of reads under my belt, I have started trying random reads of late. The downfall is that you occasionally struggle through an uninspiring story. The beauty of this is that I have discovered worlds that would have otherwise gone unexplored in my life. The Hunger Games brings one such place to life. Do not miss this unique tale of future possibility or it's sister story, Catching Fire. I eagerly await the next installment due out in August, 2010.
