The Greater Journey is the enthralling, inspiring—and until now, untold—story of the adventurous American artists, writers, doctors, politicians, architects, and others of high aspiration who set off for Paris in the years between 1830 and 1900, ambitious to excel in their work.

John says: "Priceless! Best book I've read in years"
    "Two thumbs up"
    Overall

I totally enjoyed this book, both the book itself and the reading. I bought it because I like D. McCullough's writing - thoroughly enjoyed 1776 - but was still surprised as how much fun and how interesting it was.

In this, his magnum opus, the world’s best known skeptic and critical thinker Dr. Michael Shermer—founding publisher of Skeptic magazine and perennial monthly columnist (“Skeptic”) for Scientific American—presents his comprehensive theory on how beliefs are born, formed, nourished, reinforced, challenged, changed, and extinguished.

Leigh says: "Great material. Not-so-great narration."
"Having a tough time getting through this one"
    Overall

The author seems to just assume that any sort of faith is irrational and false. I'm only halfway through but pretty disappointed so far.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Kindle Customer says: "Great Narration!!"
    "A great audiobook"
    Overall

The book was more intense than I was expecting, but the reading - both of them - was just wonderful and really made the book. And I absolutely loved the ending!
