Eleven years have passed since Alexa Hamilton left the South behind, fleeing the pain of her ex-husband's betrayal and the cruelty of his prominent Charleston family. Now an assistant D.A. in Manhattan, Alexa has made a name for herself as a top prosecutor while juggling her role as devoted single mom to a teenage daughter.

Was so bored with this book I almost didn't listen to the whole thing, but I kept thinking that surely there had to be a plot, or at least a lesson in the book, besides stereotyping Southerners. Danielle Steele needs to visit the South before writing about it. Bless her heart! :) I used to love reading her books, but stopped after they got SO depressing and boring. Guess nothing has changed.

Having been frustrated with what is out there(or lack thereof) I decided to give this one a try and was extremely gratified to find a book that kept me guessing and had me listening every chance I got. Plot twists and turns a great deal and keeps you wanting to know more. Definitely would recommend this one.

It all begins with a painting called Guilt. Eve Duncan’s daughter, Jane, has no idea why she painted the portrait of the chilling face that now hangs in a Paris gallery. But the members of a cult that dates back to the time of Christ know both the face and the significance behind it. They believe that Jane must die – when the moment is right, and not an instant before she leads them to an ancient treasure whose value and power are beyond price.

One of the worst I've listened to in a while. Narrator really is off-putting with the over-enunciation of every single syllable and really bad dialects. I've read other books from this author and enjoyed them. Not her best by a long shot.
